vRS timing belt change. timing help please.

Featured Replies

ok, ive done the timing belt on my fabia vRS and the car runs ok.

I have noticed a significant drop in mpg tho.

Reading a few posts it looks like i needed to check with vcds for the advance.

I have vcds lite as it was the only way i could update from the old vag com.

I am in the measuring block 004 and i think timing is the synchro. Angle -3..+3°c

If so mine is reading 5.5/4.9

Does anyone know what i should do. Car seems to drive ok but i have lost a little mpg. Did put it down to old 5week old fuel but just filled up and its the same

seen a vid on youtube to tweek the cam timing but just wanted to see if anyone could help here first.

I need to know as i plan on keeping the car and doing it again next time its due.

Hope that works.

It's very easy to adjust the timing, lock the cam in position then see if the crank lock will fit, if it doesn't then loosen the cam sprocket locking bolts and turn the crank slightly until the crank lock slides in easily. Tighten up the cam bolts and voila. It needs to be spot on.

You can only turn it clockwise from the crank to maintain belt tension, you can twitch it anti-clockwise from the cam sprocket since that also maintains belt tension.
