Has anybody else had trouble with the belt tensioner at the altenator, mine failes again today shredding the belt in the process, this is the third time this has happened!!

There aren't too many reasons why tensioners fail, in fact there's only one.

Having something - for whatever reason - out of alignment would do it too. Would tend to suggest alternator or its pulley too as that's the main thing that appears to have been changed to cause the onset of this condition.

Can't you feel all the pulleys and see if they spin ok?

This is why I put a brand new alternator on instead of replacing the pulley as I thought it would last longer. Changed the tensioner and belt at the same time too. I'd suggest new alternator and tensioner and that should sort it if it's all fitted correctly

Alternator reconditioning may not include fitting a new pulley, you should definitely check because I strongly suspect this is the issue.
