fixed loud ticking/tappety sound

Featured Replies

Hi guys. Octavia vrs 2001Whilst on idle or driving i had horrible and loud ticking noise. Faster i went faster it ticked. 2 garages told me tappets were going as stupidly loud possibly lifters. I know nothing about cars so thought i might aswell do my own oil and filter change before getting car in garage end of month (pay day). Whilst under car draining oil i checked downpipe to turbo bolts. 3 studs were showing just over 2 threads whilst top stud showed none. I tried to tighten but was solid but When i touched it the washer spun. Half can WD40 and couple minutes i could tighten it and also showing threads. No more ticking noise from engine and no more blowing exhaust. Don't always believe what a garage tells you. Hope this helps anyone else who fears the worst from the engine

Am I right in remembering that you started a thread on this/your issue?

You'll be best to stick this on there if you did so people can put the two together.
