thumoping from airbox

Featured Replies

just noticed this early this morning, sound like thud thud coming from the airbox and the rear of the exhaust as i have a straight threw, does not increase with rpm but falls of when rpm is rising. guess i can rule the camshaft out then?

ill try and make a video

I had this on a landrover & it was because the valve clearances were excessive,i adjusted them & it went away. (not sure if this is any use to you & your fabia though! :D ).

thanks for the reply, but problem seems to have a vanished for now.

i'm not to sure if its because the engine was cold or not but i have never noticed the noise before. i always start the car and let it warm up in the garage before i go out, just a bad  habbit i have lol. ill have to check again tomorrow morning.

when i did fire it up it did sound like this :

classic worn cam sounds

took the valve cover of today, the two rocker arm bolts on the 1st two injectors on the belt side are not torqued up, i'm not sure if they have come loose or not been torqued up properly, i decided to leave them just incase the bolts are damaged, ill go order some and see what happens.

also Sharpe edges on tandem pump side on the last two lobes. so looks like a camshaft job. may as well get the head done and change what ever else needs replacing.

does anyone know the if the rocker arm rollers can be changed?

If they're loose, probably no problem with taking them out and having a look at them. Would reveal if either of two problems have occured... Threads stripped and clinging to the bolts (unlikely with CI head) or snapped in head - more likely if previously "Ape" maintained.

well i think its had a few apes on it including me. i'm its current 9th owner lol ( 2004 ).

if i'm correct as shown in the log below, it shows injectors 1-3 different from the other two. would this indicate that injectors 1-3 would be the two injectors what are incorrectly torqued, closest to the sprocket?

firing order 1-3-4-2  as vcds shows just 1,2,3,4 and not 1,3,4,2
