aux input on standard head unit?

Featured Replies

Quick question, I've currently got a standard head unit with the cd changer in my mk1 fabia vrs se, is there any way of adding an aux cable to it and run it?

hopefully someone will know more about it than I do and could shed some light for me!

Thanks in advance :)

You need to buy one of the following:

Depends on how much you want to spend, on the last one you can get one with an ipod lead i just cant find it then need an adaptor to get it to a lightning plug.

You also loose the cd changer option on the cheaper ones, other option is like a parrot handsfree kit

Probably just better off getting a new head unit then?

Cheers :)

it depends if you want to loose the cd changer, you can get a aux cable with a cd changer connector for about 8 quid but you would loose the cd changer, at the moment I'm working on an idea which would allow both aux and cd changer i will let you know how that goes as i think it would be the better option keeping the cd changer and have an aux also

I'm pretty sure that won't work. It's not a simple connection between CDC and h/u. Hence the existence of the Conencts2 and Dension and Xcarlink crowd.

I'm tempted to say "go mechless" and get a Kenwood FLAC capable h/u with a large-ish USB storage plugged in to it. I have no experience of that though.

i didn't think it would at first, but i was surprised all i have to do was press 1 when i selected cd and it worked ( like you do with the connects 2) i have had it in my car now a few weeks and all works well, cars been off the road but its came in handy with the project i have going

So you still have the use of the five other cd slots and the cd slot in the head unit itself then?

I want an aux lead input but I want to keep the original OeM head unit AND still have the CD changer as I like listening to a full album on a CD, people will say 'just choose albums on your iPod then'

But it is getting around to uploading CDs onto my laptop and syncing the iPod again. It would be much less hassle having an aux input and still having the cd changer.

Let me know how you get on Tom

i will do, i get another delivery of parcels today so i will let you know how it goes, hoping it works as i currently have a MCD nav unit fitted but the screen has lines down it so i have bought a vw gamma headunit and a cd changer ( in  dash) going to try my new technique on this if it works might even make a kit for it

Ah, so not the Symphony Single CD tuner as supplied with the Fabia Mk1 then? I'd say stuff can be made to work if you have a data connection - original CDC or Connects2 etc. It'd probably be a case of simply switching the audio input lines.
