Sunroof problems?

Featured Replies

So my understanding is the sunroof is a tilt AND slide? Mine only tilts and other than a couple of points on the rotation of the control it opens and closes straight away. I think there are 2 points in the rotation where it stays tilted. Am I missing something obvious or is it faulty?

TIA

Should be turn in one direction for tilt (as you say there are very few tilt angle options), and turn in the other direction for slide.

I guess we should check that it is a factory fit sunroof?

In his profile it says his car is an elegance so it will have a factory fitted tilt and slide sunroof like ours do , I would say it has a fault as mine has just started to do similar tilt is fine on mine but when I slide it opens fine but wont close all the way, then opens back all the way I held the wind deflector down and it closed so I have left it closed for now , I have a faulty drivers door micro switch as the remote locking dosnt work and the drivers window plays up every now and then , so I am going to fix the micro switch in the door and see if this helps my situation.

Mine had the problem of when slid all the way back when closing would get so far the open again, when I bought the car this happened and the seller of the car bought me a new roof and believe it or not only just got around to fitting it after owning the car for 3 years lol. When I looked at the new roof (second hand) there are 2 plastic runners 1 on each side that get buckled. They are held on by 2 T10 Torx screws. I removed these and fitted the new roof and hey presto it works fine, when I looked at my old roof the same had happened to the plastic runners on that, so I think that was the issue. Only thing is you have to remove the roof to get access to the plastic parts.

Hope that helps?

Cheers

I just had the car back with the dealer who replaced the switch as an act of "good will" but sadly it hasnt fixed it. Funds are tight for me atm so I cant afford to pay for them to look into it further, where can I try next myself to try and figure out what is the likely problem?

If it starts to slide and then sticks or reverses, it is friction in the track or mechanism that is the problem. This is the action of the roof when it thinks it has detected trapped fingers.

There are two overrides you can use. The first is to press up on the switch while operating the motor to disable the safety feature. The second is to open up the panel on which the switch is mounted and there you will find a bar which you can engage in the end of the shaft. This allows you drive the mechanism manually so you can close the sunroof in an emergency. I guess you could also wind it back too to check for twigs etc but I have not tried it.

In my mind operating it manually is better than trying to override the safety - something might break/burn out motorwise, but you might feel when it starts to get harder to move, and can wind it back for another go.
