Featured Replies

Hi I've just brought my friends 1.9 tdi asv as he has gone to the dark side peugeot of all things he will be back ha ha , right back to the problem the car has had this problem a while but he hasn't worried about it , when you start the car up when cold it has a very intermitant splutter/ misfire as soon as she warms up it's fine the car drives fine and starts with no hesitation at all and has no engine light or fault codes , I've not had much to do with the tdi engine I've always worked with the 1.8 t any help would be great full

If you have access to VCDS have a look at the temp the ECU is getting from the Coolant Temp Sensor. Also worth checking the timing/synchro angle in VCDS too.

I've got vag com I'll check them thanks

It could just be glow plugs too. Mine's always had a habit of starting on 2 or 3 when it's cold, and the others join in within about 5s. There are no faults (VCDS).

It will still like mis after a few minutes till it's warmed up

Asv isn't a pd engine

Define "warmed up", do you mean after 5-6 minutes, or a few seconds?

isn't the fuel temp sender in the pump  under the triangular screws?

I thought it was in the injector pump?

yes that pump -- don't think most 90/110's had an intank pump   :sun:

Yes warmed up May be 5/10 minutes once warm no mis or flutter of the revs at all

Mine did this when the battery was dying! I thought it was glow plugs but put a good quality battery on it and its been fine ever since! Test your battery before you go throwing money at other stuff

It's been doing this for a good while now may be 12 months so I can't see it being the battery

Approaching this from the other end; I didn't have any issues with cold running on mine when the battery was dying and wouldn't hold a charge overnight.

It's almost as if there could be air in the fuel system

Had my first good look at it today I think it could be the maf it seems to run better with it unplugged and it don't mis as it has been you plug it in and it starts what reading should you get off a good maf on tick over

Can anyone help me with the maf readings please

If it drives better with the MAF disconnected, then that's a strong suspect regardless of fault codes or data from idle.

I'd suggest swapping MAFs and seeing if we swap the fault, but I live 12 hours drive from you.

Heres mine stone cold this morning flicks up and down between 275-285
