Window tint Recomendations

Featured Replies

Don't forgot the legal requirements on Tints. Police forces across the UK are now getting light meters issued to crack down on tints.

The issue is with Neds (Ch4vs), etc who have excessively dark tints, and anyone with a respectable car should be let to drive on by, but you never know if you get a good cop or bad cop!

Law states:

75% LTV* on the windscreen

70% LTV* on the side foreward of B pillar

anything goes on the other windows.

*LTV - Light Transmission Value, ie how much light must pass through the glass.

So, if you take into account the light absorbtion properties of normal glass, 8%-10%, you can legally only apply about a 20% tint on the front side windows, which is why Professional Tiniters like Pentagon have been raging as it seriously affecting business.

My car was tinited before the Law came into affect and has 30% on the front, which overall probably makes it near a 40% reduction or 60% LTV, but I've yet to be questioned by the Police and have had the police admire the car (R32) and not say a word. I think its down to the car and attitude of the police, but its something anyone who has tints should be aware of.

Personally, I like them and think the new Law / light meters are a bit over-handed but thats they way this country is going!

:)

According to the latest laws that come in effect in Jan 04 it is now illegal to have any additional tints forward of the b pillar.

"During the early part of 2004, Section 32 of the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations will be amended to include “Window Tint Films”, where such materials attached to the glass are capable of reducing the Visible Light Transmission of forward windows to below prescribed levels. These changes will be back-dated to become applicable from 1st January 2004.

This will effectively ban virtually all tinted films fitted to windows forward of the B-Post on any vehicle that is to be driven on UK roads."

What % are yours Rob? Looks good, kinda what I had in mind if I got mine done.

Steve

Sorry, forgot to say, they're 50% front doors, 35% back doors, 20% rear and 20% boot. Done by Liam about 10 months ago.

Not noticeably dark in the cabin - haven't noticed any real difference at night except headlights are less dazzling from behind.

I love the way it looks, just hope I have no problems getting it through the WOF (MOT) in New Zealand!

Apparently if they think they're too dark they scrape a line right down the centre of the tint to force you to have it removed
