Sqealing like a piggy...

Featured Replies

Hi Folks,

I'm new to Briskoda (and Skodas in general!), just picked up my 2000 reg Felicia pickup at the weekend. Previous owner transplanted the AHU 1.9TDI engine and did the MTDI conversion too. As soon as I can figure out how to upload pictures (I cant seem to compress them down to 1kb?) I'll post them up, but don't expect to be impressed

I will probably have loads of questions for you guys in the coming days/weeks/months/years but for now I'll start with a fairly simple one:

The engine is squealing like a b***h, the noise is coming from the aux. belt but the standard squirt with WD40 doesnt seem to affect it. Wierdly the noise at idle goes away when it warms up, but give it any revs (hot or cold) and its back? I'm going to try a new belt tonight, but I have a feeling the noise may be coming from the alternator pulley/clutch.

If it is the clutch does anybody know if this is the M10 spline or 12mm torx type mounting?

Cheers all,

Rich.

I would suggest the first thing to do is take off the alternator drive belt and start the engine if the noise is still there its deeper inside, if it's gone it's the alternator bearing or the water pump if it's driven on the same system I'm not familiar with the engine but it's an easy check Clive.
