Fabia - A few problems :'(

okay, so as a few of you know, my fabia has not always been the most reliable, for want of more civilised wordings :p

 

recently, when i start it, it turns over quite alot before firing. it came on randomly for a few days ,then had a day off so to speak, now its back everytime. doesnt matter how long i leave the car, if its hot or cold, how much fuel is in etc. its just turns over for a while before eventually firing.

 

secondly, it's still not making good power. with everything on there i should be max'ing out my 150 injectors, yet it managed a piddly 203bhp compared to the 240bhp ish i should have/was expecting. its had a new engine, turbo, filters, im on a different set of injectors from the first set. im literally at an end with this part as i have no idea what else it could be. from my last map im down 25ftlbs at peak torque and she doesnt feel as responsive lower down as it did do before the engine was changed.

 

lastly (i hope), does anyone know anywhere local to hull or east yorkshire where i can get my gearbox sorted? it struggles to select 1st and reverse which i was told is the input shaft bearing? and it seems to have developed a whine in any gear which gets worse with road speed. checked wheel bearings etc and they all seem fine.

It sounds like you need a complete exchange gearbox since the whine you mention is caused by the diff.

 

The hard starting and loss of power could be down to premature camshaft wear or loss of compression or even an injector loom fault. Have you visually inspected the turbo impeller for signs of erosion?

 

The numbers are really only relevant if the same dyno and operator are being used, 25ftlbs is less than 10% after all.

Ahh bugger. Pardon my ignorance, but ive been toying with fitting an lsd. Would this fix my problem?

The turbo was only 2k miles old when i inspected it, saw marks in the compressor inducer(?) so had the turbo repaired and recon'd

Same dyno and operator every time. It just physically feels poor. I know when i changed my engine it would need mapping. But the new engine is literally balls out at 203bhp smoking like a good one.

Loss of power and smoke could be a few things lol could be a worn camshaft it could be incorrectly adjusted injectors also the valve timing could be advanced or retarded a ball hair. All these would give you loss of power,alot of smoke and make it hard to start.

If it's cam timing it's retarded. Not saying it is... Just one possible reason. Would also have an impact on higher RPM smoking, I think.

Would do it more if its advanced tbh
