Auto wipers - are they clever in frost?

Featured Replies

Hello,

On my polo and previous golf, the auto wipers won't wipe automatically until you either drive off or switch them off and on manually. This was to take into account the risk of frost sticking the wipers to the window and thus damaging the motors.

On the rapid, sometimes they just start wiping as soon as I start the engine in the rain.

Have they improved the technology to look at the temperature to check if it's safe to auto wipe, or is it not as good with no intelligence, resulting in possible damage if left set to auto in the winter mornings.

Your thoughts and experience?

Ps, the manual does not mention it.

I'd be surprised if they'd taken a step back with this approach.

In the MK2 pre-fl Octavia they don't work until you switch them off and on or adjust the sensitivity.
