possible bearing noise from rear 1.9tdi 4x4 56 plate

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Got a nice humming noise coming from the back of my car at the moment, it changes pitch with speed. Also present when clutch in and coasting.

Am I correct in thinking that this is a rear bearing on its way out? Or could it be the Haldex?

It does seem to change when i go round different corners so I'm leaning toward the bearing needing replacement. Although I cant make out which one it is yet as I'm generally driving on my own - I do 600 miles a week minimum.

Can anyone give me any info about the best (cheapest) option on getting spares for this?

Are the bearings pressed into the hub or do they bolt on?

Has anyone got a link to demonstrate replacement?

TIA.

Have you posted in the wrong section,

is it an Octavia?

yes it's an Octavia 56 plate 4x4 1.9

Just had a quick check of the rear tyres at lunchtime, the driver side one seems to have a bit more wear on the inner edge than the passenger side.
