Octavia R!

Featured Replies

So before I start I should say this project is well past the half way point, infact the new engine is in and running just thought I would start a fresh with a thread. I haven't really gathered that many photographs since the beginning of the build and for this I apologise but I have never really bothered with forums in the past. I don't get an awful lot of time to work on the car being employed and running a small business but I do try. anyway enjoy.

Right then well had my vrs for a while now, but have never really got round to even joining a forum nevermind starting a build thread! Anyway started out with a mk4 vw golf 4motion, really nice daily car being a highline it had everything! 4wd was nice, as was the 2.8 under the bonnet, but not really any room for improvement and at the time didn't want to go mad with the idea of boosting it. Now always wanted to join the Skoda clan and after a friend of mine (vrade, the czech devil) had purchased one I just couldn't resist, so I had the 4mo advertised almost instantly, couldn't really find any that took my liking until I got offered one as a part ex for the 4mo. What are the chances aye? 2003 with 76,000m, full history, completely standard apart from a forge 007p, really clean car with only 1 or 2 marks around the bodywork. Met the guy half way looked over the cars, swapped keys, then took some extra cash of him ;) and the deal was done I had just bought a clean mk1 octavia vrs for what worked out at about £1200, absolute steal as I happily took £800 out of the guys wallet with the deal.

So the drive home was great fun, car felt awesome, really responsive, to say I was happy would be an understatement. Car felt 10x better than any standard 1.8t id driven before so a quick sift through the paperwork showed a shark performance stage 1 remap which would probably explain the 007p. Didn't really want to do anything to the car but within a fortnight it had a 3" downpipe decat and small FMIC with plans to add other stage 2 supporting mods.

So 6 months down the line and I regret to say the car had been abused and didn't have anymore of those stage 2 mods, cigarette burns in the seats, dirty carpets, car park dings, scratches, smashed rear bumper the list goes on. 5.30am Monday morning work commute, overtaken by a lovely sounding mk5 golf gti and obviously I couldn't allow that! Had a little play before going for the overtake, changed from 3rd to 4th then BANG horrible noises loss of drive clutch in engine off and coast into a layby only to be towed home by the golf that had started this whole problem. So differential was destroyed and with the car feeling sorry for itself anyway I was doubting if I would ever get her back on the road or not, even began to feel guilty. I had some money that was saved to buy a b5 Audi s4, and decided to give the Octavia the treatment she deserved and so it began! Watch this space for updates on my forged IHI build!

So the car as I bought her immediately after the drive home.

Basic planned spec is as follows;

-AMK block in favour of the low comp 20mm pin pistons!

-Forged rods

-Large port head

-IHI vf22 turbo

-Water Meth

-6 speed 02m gearbox conversion

-LSD

Hoping to see upwards of 340bhp, have been told this sort of setup is good for 380 but only time will tell!

Just thought I'd make it so people didn't have to click to see your photos.

Well luckily I have a few things to have fun in so i don't really mind.

Right guys so progress has been slow and the car has been off the road being slowly built whilst iv been playing with a few other toys  400hp evo9, b6 s4, r26 amongst a few. So the car is together and sat in the corner under a cover waiting for me to get the final bits before I can put it on the road and run it in, yes still on the hunt for suspension and brakes but they will come before I get her mapped.

Quick base spec,.AMK block, forged rods, large port head and inlet, IHI vf22 on Jabbasport mani (awaiting downpipe purchase), 02m 6 speed, peloquin diff. Hoping this thing should really put a smile on my face and after talking to jabbasport can set myself on hoping to achieve somewere in the region of 360ish hp all of which should hopefully be useable.
