uprated injectors and mpg

Featured Replies

Right so I know the terms uprated injectors and mpg shouldnt really go in the same sentence but its a general question really!

Looking at getting some 80% firads to go with a 2260 to then be mapped but was curious to see what id expect to see mpg wise for those that have uprated already!

Not expecting anything special probs around mid 20s to 30s at best maybe? Or when cruising is the drop not to noticeable?

At the end of the day its all about the powaaah but would be nice to know

Cheers

Liam

With a good map it will only be heavier on fuel when your high up in the boost/throttle positions.

Mapped properly cruising/normal driving mpg should be the same as standard injectors.

yep. that's how mine seems to be, which is nice :)

Speak to silky. He's been running dssr 90's for a few months now.

I'm on 130% injectors and still getting about 50mpg

Massively impressed with that! ^^ thats ok then! I dont mind when on WOT to have bugger all but would still love to keep a little bit of sensibleness when going to work and the like! Cheers lads!

What does the 80/90/120% etc on uprated injectors relate to?

Presuming its maximum flow/amount of fuel?

But can't be standard+130% extra!!!! :)

think its the nozzle size on end of the injector.

normal = pinprick

130 = small bucket of fuel with every stroke ;)

I like to think injector honing is a little more of a science. :)

first don't buy Firads they are worse for MPG they don't atomise as well as DSSR

i'm on DSSR 90% from United Diesels did a full tank fill up the other day and got over 450miles before 1/4 tank left

that was a run up to falkirk and back 320miles, 100 mile of that on A roads so on the loud pedal offen, 3 trips to work and back and everyday i'm on the loud pedal

2 blast on my private test track in 6th gear 4500rpm

i'm on a 2260 at 2.4bar my dash says i've averaged 45mpg over last 2000 miles

don't take the % rate as the increased flow rate thats not how it works (it looks good on advertising though) Don't know exactly how they work the % rates but

Here is the flow charts and figures from my DSSR 90% nozzles and compared with others, you can see mine flow 25% more across the whole range and have been rated to 320bhp max

Having spoken with United Diesels at great length he told he how Firad nozzle are very un-predictable and its a lottery to what they will flow when matched to good injector bodies he has seen 50% flow more than 80%

he says this is because Firad make nozzles on a huge scale for all manufactures of vehicle and 4-5 times a yr they run a batch of "uprated nozzle" eg. large nozzle holes.

whereby DSSR look at the nozzle as whole and design the uprated flow around the whole nozzle, therefor better spray and atomisation pattern and more like standard nozzle holes, this gives better low rpm control, better cold start & longer life span.

I'm not knocking Fiards nozzles many many people use them and they are fine, but i made my choice based on what i read/told and DSSR/DSR track record success (oh they were cheaper as well) and i believe United Diesel is the UK supplier of DSSR nozzles???

Also having spoken to other peeps who have had the cars mapped by other tuners on DSSR's they are preferred by the tuners over Firads and are easier to map and to get good clean results

I asked John/Faboka the other day what mine are running now and he said this:

"Plenty of room. For the duration your running now would = around 185bhp ish on the standard nozzles."

my dssr's are on order :)

So no one knows what the % relates to or why they state it? :)

Which dssr's have you gone for, where from and how much. Need to upgrade my mine to cut down smoke and give a little more power?

On offer currently at United Diesels ;)

Possibly power output, would be typical marketing drivel for tuning stuff, suggesting massive power increases just from fitting their product.

130% = 300bhp from a PD130

united diesel £700

I ran mine (still on a test map mind, so not high high power, but am running DSS-R 130%) at the weekend.  Did 217 miles on the M5, bit of a blast here and there as appropriate :D.  Put £40 in from in the red before leaving and this was when I got home again.

I know the mpg lies, but the fact I was still showing almost half a tank (more likely 1/3 tops) after 217 miles.  Not bad. :)  Short journies kill it though.
