UK Circuits when they were new.....

Featured Replies

.. here is the day Oulton Park opened in 1953 for competition, no barriers, or kerbs, not even any paint on the circuit, trees line the circuit as do grass banks.

1967 the Gold Cup, no barriers yet and still tree lined.

1968 F1 at the Gold Cup, it was from this even the F1 series know today was born.

1970, F1 at Oulton Park, towards the end you get an idea of why soil banks are not good for running off into.

1971 Gold cup, things are looking more like a circuit with painted lines and a few barrier but still big grass banks and trees line the circuit.

1984, BTCC at the Gold Cup, this was before the Hislops chicane was built in front of Knicker Brook to slow things down a little.

1990, barriers, tyre walls and kerbs, looking like the circuit we all know.

2009 OP has a rally circuit in the in field, here it is being used during the Gold Cup, the second Escort MK 1 is my mate, Mr Nixon

Thanks for watching and long may motorsport continue at Oulton Park..
