Scout 1.8tsi engine modifications

Featured Replies

Hi folks... I was looking for some info on worthwhile modifications to my petrol scout.

I'm getting to grips with the various remapping options but wondered what else was worth doing?

Many thanks

May be worth while having a look at my build thread but personally I'd do a Shark Performance remap and an intake. Best bang per buck IMO. After that you could change the exhaust, cat and down pipe for further bhp and torque gains. If you wanted to go further still its a case of a turbo swap. Don't forget the inter cooler upgrade though. Lots of brakes options too; Porsche nqsbbk being my favourite overall but again, 312mm disks with Ferrodo's ds2500s and ate super blue fluid coped very well when I was running just stage 1 mapping. :)

What year is your car?

2010...

I've just had a good read of yetiman's thread... Food for thought!

I'd be wary of a remap, there have been a few threads recently on worryingly high oil consumption on 1.8TSi Scout's.

I thought the failures were more on vrs's aren't they?

Remap is best bang for buck.  I've had a Bluefin for 95,000km and it's been great.  You can do better with a custom map but I achieved some amazing reductions in my in-gear times.

The other thing I'd look at is water/meth injection - mainly as a preventive maintenance measure as the inlets on these things oil up quite badly & the WMI will keep it cleaner & reduce intake temps & therefore cause less timing pull, etc.

Knocking out the 1st stage of the cat will bring the turbo on much earlier.  3" DP with a 3" 200cell cat into a stock system will work well too.

Golf R intercooler will stop heat soak and provide stability of power.

Go Fast Bits DV+ will hold boost longer.

Personally, I think the stock intake works well if you replace the paper filter regularly (every 30,000 - 45,000km)

There have been more 2.0TSI than 1.8TSI failures reported on Briskoda because there are more owners of the former.  The timing chain tensioner and timing chain are identical on both engines.  Most failures involve engines fitted with the first version of the tensioner but later ones have failed too.  You can check my post below to get an idea of whic tensioner version is fitted to your car.
