Octavia 2 elegance 2005 2.0 tdi usb aux iphone

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I want to make a neat solution for charging an iPhone and connecting it to the radio.

I'd like to mount the iPhone within the pop up lid above the centre air vent, my question is could I connect this up somehow to give me power and an aux in with one of these?

Could I connect the aux cable to the cd changer port? It's an audience and I think it has CD changer capabilities.

How would I get the power cable connected?

(I don't expect to get track information).

I don't know that head unit but its likely you could fit an aux in place of the cd changer. What is not clear from that advert is whether the voltage is stepped down to 5v which a usb phone charger requires. My guess is the brown lead is supposed to connect to the fuse box in some way but that would need a step down adaptor.

I wired my USB charging point straight into a switched live at the fuse box using this:

Thanks for that. It might be possible to combine those wiring kits maybe? Use your wire to get from the fuse box then replace the usb port with the green connector and port from the wire link I put up perhaps? I'm new to car electrics, could you explain how you wired that cable into the fuse box please? What's a switched live :) ?

Yes it might well be possible.  In the fuse box there are permanent lives and switched lives.  The former is for circuits that can be on without the ignition, e.g. hazard lights and the latter for things that are on only with the ignition, e.g. horn.  I chose the switched live as I wouldn't want the risk of a permanently powered usb circuit, especially as it would only be useful to me when the car was in use.  You can piggy back onto a 5A circuit at the fuse box using a piggy back fuse, or take the dash apart and connect the positive side properly to the back of the box, but if you are not sure about things, google piggy back fuse and go that way.  In either case, you would connect the negative side of the circuit to an earthing point and there is one near the fuse box.

You would also need something to connect the two stepped down wires to the brown USB wire - without seeing the lead or any instructions it is hard to say how that might be done, but some kind of jack connector probably exists.
