Service parts - which make?

Featured Replies

The Octy is coming up for its service and MOT.

I usually do a bit of it myself to save costs (air, pollen filters brake discs and pads), however, I would like to know the best parts to use at a decent price.

I was tempted to use all Bosch parts, but would I be throwing away money by ignoring cheaper parts from manufacturers like Crossland?

Cheers, Andy

Cheers guys, I am checking both sites now, and there seems to be a bit of a difference in price for identical items. I have the standard 55 reg 1.9 TDiPD model (manual without aircon), so I am not sure about some parts like the fuel filter and pollen filter.

Genuine VAG parts are generally reboxed Mann filters.

The fuel filter is a bit of a bugger as there are three different types, and it seems to be random as to what type is fitted to any particular car. The easiest way to determine what one you need is to read the part number of your fuel filter housing and use this to work out what filter you need.

Or Dorset Auto Spare I would recommend ;-) they will beat any price if you speak to kelby there they will post to your door.. use mahle filters and apec both great brand most oe filters are mahle..

By the way I'm not kelby ;-)

Cheers for the help guys, I went to ECP in the end, and bought the oil, oil filter and air filter.

It has been chucking down with rain outside, so I have not had a chance to get under the bonnet to see which fuel and pollen filters it takes.

You won't find the pollen filter there.

It's inside on the passenger side under the glove box. :p

Thanks Phil, is it easy to get out?

Easy enough. Undo the trim and you'll see the plastic cover for the pollen filter housing. Slide cover to the left (IIRC) and it comes away, expect some crap to fall out that has been caught by the filter. Pull filter out keeping eye on which way it was (Think it only fits properly one way anyway) fit new one, cover back on. Trim panel back in place and away you go.

Thanks folks, everything done now.

The total cost for the MOT, service, a CV gaitor was £150 so not bad.

It has now done 130K miles, and we have done 37K of those since we bought it in March 2012 (it replaced a totally useless 3 year old Mazda 3).

I had a cambelt/water pump) change done immediately, so should I be thinking about another change at 40K miles?

Cambelt is 4 years or 60k miles.

So it's either due in March 2016 or 153,000 miles.

Service parts, E-Bay my first stop..

My replacement timing-belt etc done when car was 5 years old 40,000+ now due next year at 10years old at around 90,000 miles.

So if miles are not there the age is..LOL

Isn't it every 4 years?

Arguments over this subject 4 years or 60,000 miles.

So over the 4 years nearly 5 years old, but well below 60,000 miles at 40,000 miles.

Not much of a gamble in the fear of it breaking, I thought.

Same as next year really at 10 years old in June 2015... with approx 50.000 miles further on..still below mileage guide lines.

Cheers guys, I was quite surprised when I heard the cambelt intervals, because I own an Alfa GTV (with the 2.0L DOHC petrol engine) and Alfa revised their cambelt intervals down from 72K to 36K (3 year limit).

Are petrol cars more susceptible to failure because of the higher revs?
