Blowing Headlight Bulbs

Featured Replies

guys, my mate has a 14 plate rapid, it's forever blowing headlight bulbs, it's covered 25k and only works nights ( yes lights are always on )

But it's literally used 8 bulbs since he picked it up about 6 months ago. 7 in the passenger side & 1 in the drivers.

I said to him most likely cheap quality bulbs & recommended be bought a decent bulb, so bought Philips Blue vision ultra, he put them in two weeks ago and the passenger side has just went tonight again.

My opinion is that there must be some sort of fault with passenger headlight or wiring as this can't be normal.

I've had my toledo for 3 months & my headlights are on any time I'm in the car as I prefair to be seen day or night and I've not changed a bulb yet ( I bet one blows tonight now I've wrote this )

Anyone had any similar probs?

Definitely a problem there.  My current car has covered 17K miles in 18 months, often with headlamps on, and still has original bulbs fitted.  My last car had 3 replacement headlamp bulbs in 75K miles over 6-1/2 years.

No problems to date here either and we do most of our driving in the dark during the winter months. Mind we changed the factory bulbs to Osram Nightbraker +, although these bulbs had seen service in the Previous Octy.

As others have said I'd get the car checked out, as it sounds as if the light units are drawing a little too much current but obviously not enough to blow the fuse.

Needs electrical diagnosis for a poor earth.  My punto ate bulbs for that reason - and they were sods to change too!

Also, the Montego blew headlight fuses all the time for similar reasons.

That does sound like an earth problem.

I can't believe Toledo's are so popular amongst cabbies.  My FiL will have a field day since I took the p out of his white E-class for years.

Same in bournemouth they're all Toledos and no Rapids. It's because they're cheap [emoji6]

and there was a special minicab edition imported in hundreds, the Toledo SX

Yeh that's the crack with the Toledo, the taxi centre up here approached Seat & said build a particular model for taxi drivers.

So the SX model now comes as standard with

Full leatherette interior

Hill hold

Parking sensors

TPMS

Remote locking

Full size spare

3rd headrest in rear

Deleted from S or other spec are

Electric mirrors

Alarm siren

So just now on a 5 year deal on a toledo its £64per week from the taxi centre for the above spec'd car.

I've got to say, the Toledos are much nicer looking than the rapid, from the interior to the exterior. I've got the SE spec & it's well kitted out, tho I'm hating the 17" rims with low profile tyres. But new car due to me in March & it's looking like a Vw Passat Executive I'll be getting based on the deal just now from the taxi centre

Back on topic anyways for me.

My mates buld had literally just blew again, so less than 24hrs a bulb lasted. Bloody crazy, Skoda will be getting a all on Monday to deal with it
