My Key Broke - Best Place To Get Replacement

Featured Replies

Hi all

centuries no post from me.

Just a quick question and yes I am 100% clueless on cars.

Couple weeks back on turning off my ignition and removing my key, the metal bit stayed in the ignition while the black bit became detached and s small metal piece fell to the floor.

So I guess I should get a replacement spare. Do I have any other potions than getting from an authorised Skoda dealer ?

How much, very roughly, is this likely to set me back ? I've never needed to get one before, for any car, so not the faintest idea.

Thanks in advance for replies .

Mike

if you have a folding key

the keyblade is held in place with a small pin

blank blade off ebay, get it cut at Timpsons etc and swap over.

Nah it's too broken for that. Piece of metal at base where it swivels broken away :(

You might be able to get another key from eBay etc and swap your metal key part and internals in to it depending on the type of key that you have.

One of my dogs got hold of one of mine and chewed it to bits a couple of years ago: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/250235-my-dog-ate-my-key/

That was the newer one piece key type. The older style 2 part might be simpler.
