Spacers For My Monte, What Ones?

Featured Replies

Thinking of getting some spacers next to make the car look better and "wider" and seen these Ripspeed ones in Halfords which are cheap, will they be okay? I mean spacers are just a piece of metal to act as a spacer right? So what's the point of the more expensive ones?

Thanks

The 'cheaper' spacers will be made of a cheap metal, which obviously won't last as long as a more expensive metal grade.

Oh okay, makes sense. Looking at some hubcentric ones 10mm all round, will that be visible enough or shall i look for 20mm for example? Also how will i get a longer locking wheel nut bolt? I can get the other bolts but i need a locking one special for my car?

plus, you will get more of a chance of wheel wobble with cheaper spacers..

Get like FK or Η&R - don't go cheap on important things like these where safety comes first.

I'm also guessing that cheap ones might be heavier too - good one are made of aluminum making it light and doesn't heat up.

When I had my Gigaros up front I went to 13mm and at the back 18mm with no problems.

Looks much better, thinking of going 10mm front and 15mm back or similar. What about the locking wheel nut bolts, do they come in the pack with the new longer bolts?

You can get longer locking wheel nuts, but they are not cheap!

With proper quality spacers, not just 'things like big washers' we used to use on Minis etc in the old days and which are no better now, good for an extra 5 mm or so.  (the difference between oooo & ahhh in some applications)

you do not need other Wheel Bolts ( Studs)

you bolt the Spacer to the hub with the supplied bolts (studs)

then put your wheels on with your Wheel Bolts (studs)  including the Locking Bolt (stud).

I'm sold on the hubcentric ones atm, don't like the look of those normal spacers that don't have the lip, they don't look very safe, i'll need longer bolts with the hubcentric ones though right?

Hub centric or not you will need longer bolts.

I have gone for 20mm at the back (bolt onto the hub) and 15mm at the front (longer bolts) both bought from members in here after I put up in the wanted section :) all milled out of one piece of aluminium ect

my winter wheels are octy elegance wheels, and the offset makes them look silly as they sit "in" the arches (I'm suprised they dont foul!)

so they should look good now, When I put the winters on, i will post a before and after pic...

Sounds good, so do you think i'll get away with the normal bolts on the back and just use longer ones on the front? If i was to get like 10mm all round

I seemed to find when researching it, that original bolts are ok IF you can get at least SEVEN turns from when they start in the thread... probably upto about 10mm.... and new 10mm spacers could be had quite cheap, but the extended bolts were a good £15 for 4!

try the wanted section, I got both pairs for £30 each delivered. (£60 in total) including all the bots for both lots :)

I was going to go 15mm front and 18mm at the back, but due to my wedding swmbo tightened the purse strings! I was told that set up would be suitable and pleasing to the eye.

IMO and it's only an opinion, 10mm will probably leave you wishing you had gone bigger, I don't think it will give you the effect you want.

I too like hubcentric but I haven't seen many reports that they are significantly better.

I think i might go 15 and 18 as well cos you do have a point if they are not wide enough then i would have wished i ordered wider ones and i just need to find some now and find longer bolts. I'm guessing i can still use my normal locking bolts and then longer bolts for the other 4 holes?

As I haven't fitted any as yet I'm not sure but from what I know if you get the bolt on spacers you don't need longer bolts as the spacers have their own threads. I would have concerns about those as you would have to rely on the spacers being of top quality as they then become the part that's holding the wheel on and if the threads are slightly off you can get wheel wobble or worse. I am however not clued up in this area and some may argue longer bolts will not be as strong?? George is clued up on wheels/tyres I would listen to him and a few others on here.

Just seen this, yeah i'm not too keen on using the same bolts just in case, so will look for longer ones just to be safe but thanks for the info
