What I find odd is that they kept manufacturing cars with the original type of oil when they were replacing others with the mineral oil?!

I do not believe that there is a DSG Service Schedule in place in any shape or form. It might be that say my box, which is not under oil change campaign, has synthetic oil but of a different kind or perhaps they passivated the elements of the Mechatronic unit to make the none-reactive? Who knows...

Mineral oils degrade, they loose shear bonds and therefore loose their ability to protect the moving parts where it matters much quicker than synthetic oils

I have Synthetic oil & an uprated clutch pack and am very pleased.
