Boot Light And Unlocking No Longer Working

Featured Replies

Hi fellas,

I installed new loudspeakers in the back of my hatchback mk1 and I had to strip the C pillar trim to have better acces. When doing this, I had to remove the boot lamp (it was getting hot and almost burned my hands a couple of times) and somehow I've damaged something because it's no longer working (no light). I checked the connector to be in it's place, trying to re-seat it and also checked the bulb which looked ok at that moment (there is another electronical thing in the lamp which I might have blown). After that, I noticed that the boot lid is no longer unlocked when the car is, but when pulling the lever near the driver's seat, is ok. I tried to use the driver door panel switch to lock/unlock the doors but still no luck.

Is there any fuse that I should check ? Have you encountered this problem before?

Sounds like a fuse

(there is another electronical thing in the lamp which I might have blown).

It's a diode which I doubt you would have blown but it's easy to check by powering the lamp directly from your battery or other 12v DC source. As Kgod1991 said, check your fuses.

Update: The night (and the bloody rain) arived and I noticed that the interior light is no longer working, with the door opened or by using the switch. It seems to be a faulty fuse indeed. I will have to check the map..tomorrow.
