A Rant!

Featured Replies

Not about anyone on here, it's more that I just need to let off some steam.

Some of you may remember the issues I had with my Blackline DSG when I bought it 2 years ago and that it spent 6 of its first 8 weeks of my ownership at the dealers with a central locking fault that they were unable to fix, the frustrations and upset that this brought. A goodwill gesture from both Skoda UK & the dealer afterwards amounted to them extending the warranty & servicing to 5 years.

Fast forward 2 years & 14k miles to the present day & I am now suffering from its reluctance to work properly again. It's now into its third week at the dealer - initially it went in as there was a chirping noise in P or N. This was eventually diagnosed as the DMF and so the dealer changed the flywheel & both clutch-packs.

On return, there was a noticeable clutch judder in 2nd & 3rd gears, and then it started slipping in 2nd gear and the gearbox began hunting through the gears continuously (3/4/5), so it was returned again for the software to be reset/programmed & a parking sensor to be replaced.

On return the clutch judder is still present, the rear wiper started working on its own accord and wouldn't turn off (it wasn't even switched on to be fair), the maxidot has started scrolling through its menus randomly and the replacement parking sensor is still faulty.

I've finally (with the help of Skoda UK) managed to "persuade" the dealer to provide me with a courtesy vehicle that doesn't have the fact that it is a courtesy vehicle emblazoned in massive letters on both sides.

I know there is nothing that anyone can do, this really is just me letting off steam, but Im now at the end of my patience limits with this car & the dealership which seem to need the intervention of Skoda UK to achieve anything.

Do I have one of the worst Octavias out there?

I feel your pain, I bought a used 3 series once which spent 5 out of its first 6 weeks back at the dealership. It never did get resolved (several faults) so I got a refund in the end but it still put a downer on the whole experience.

Maybe time to move it on, Blacklines look to be making good money still from what I've seen.

Time to shift it on, I'm afraid it looks like you got a Friday afternoon car.

Skoda UK need to help towards the P/X value or contribute towards the discount on a new replacement car.

Either way they need to put you in another (better) car with the smallest cost to change possible.

As said, some cars just refuse to be fixed, no matter how much money you care to throw at them. I've been down that road.

Eventually there comes a time when you have to cut your losses and just be done with it.

If you do part ex it then post the reg on here so no poor sod on the forum buys the lemon.  :D

How do the robots that make the car know it's Friday ?

Well, it's back on the driveway (how long for is anyone's guess).

New rear wiper motor & mechatronic unit fitted - they've been unable to locate a fault with the maxidot. Part-ex valuation from the dealer is quite poor so I might have to start looking at other brands - thankfully there is still plenty of warranty left!  :notme:

......and its gone back again today. Clutch judder is still present.

At least I've been leant the demo vRS over night this time.

Got it back on Monday morning, and despite it now having a new gearbox fitted the fault is still present and it has been returned again.

I've really lost all faith in this car now, and the dealer is at a loss as to what is causing the problem/symptoms. Unfortunately, they don't appear to be very helpful when it comes to complaining so, Skoda UK are also now involved.

The tally of parts over the past 3 and a bit weeks are: flywheel, clutch packs, software reload, mechatronic unit, rear wiper, parking sensor, gearbox.

PS: The liveried up Doomster I'm now in is atrocious.

i had my mechatronic changed because of judder. I was told i had to drive some distance to get the brain of the gearbox working properly. It has been reset when changed and has to adapt to your driving style. It had some judder at first but now it is good. Guess i had to drive 3-400 kilometers.

Week 5 of it being off the road - the dealer & Skoda UK don't seem any closer to knowing what the cause is now, however - it's not my problem any more as the dealer & Skoda UK managed to do quite a good deal as a "goodwill gesture" on a new Mk3 vRS which I collected this morning.

It's a bitter-sweet ending really, I really did like the Blackline and had no intention of changing for another 18 months until this latest catalogue of faults started, it really does cause a complete loss of confidence in the car unfortunately.

Now, I need to sort out getting a new briskoda sticker for the new one!

  • 4 weeks later...

Bitter sweet.

It's great Skoda UK have done the right thing and got you into a new vRS, win, win.

I just fear for the poor sod that takes a shine to your old car sat on a dealers forecourt somewhere after a good valet.

I wonder if that is exactly what they do? I guess if they couldn't fix it whilst in your posession then they aren't going to have any more luck now.

Just flog it on with a years approved warranty and hope it never comes back into the network?

It will probably go straight to auction as it doesn't sound its a easy fix.
