Upgrading Rods

Featured Replies

Hi all , I'm getting a modding list together over the winter now that I've decided to keep her and not break her for the sake of £1500 . Been looking at getting a 10psi actuator from beach buggy , BAM injectors , 3" downpipe/decat and a sytec fuel pump . I've also been thinking of upgrading the rods but this is new to me and looking for advice on how to do it and where's the best place to buy them from . I've seen awesome GTi do some THS rods for £360 , is there anymore you can buy/recommend . Thanks

Are you going hybrid?

We had Integrated Engineering rods in the boy's Leon Beastie.

What is the need to upgrade rods.

Without knowing the spec you want to try to achieve and your budget difficult to say why going for rods

You have a R Tech stage 2 map from your sig, so guess you are running around 225-235 hp.  Fitting Bam injectors and a sytec fuel pump with Decat 3" downpipe will need further custom mapping to get everything working right and pushing a few more ponies out, especially with a uprated actuator. This will take you to the max of the Turbo output but no where near needing rods. Rods only need changing after 280/300 hp.

share a bit more info dude...

Do we have little ends that are 19mm or 20mm in our AUQ engines?

19mm in the auq

The power I've got now is 235bhp and 289lbft , Ideally I'd like 300-350bhp as I wont be getting rid of the car now , love it to much . Just if I'm going to need a re-tune by fitting them mods I thought ill try and get as much as I can done to get the most out of it . I would like to upgrade the turbo but that wont be for another year or so . The other reason I was thinking about rods is because I like the idea of launch control and having pops and bangs , I get the odd one now but would like it more .

ok more info is good.

So with your future goal of over 300bhp then yes you need to upgrade rods mate. So worth factoring in early if you having work done and you have budget.
