Vrs turbo

Featured Replies

Hi all I'm new to britskoda so please forgive me if i go into something that's been discussed 100 times before .... After coming by some monies I'm able to ditch the old hdi and by the vrs iv always wanted ... Iv just been to look at one tonight apparently 1 owner from new never been touched fully standard 50k fsh all that lot ..... Which dident look all that bad in the dark .. only thing that is putting me off really is top of the gear stick is gone all numbers and most of vrs logo has worn away surely that's not normal for 50k is it .... And when I first fired it up from cold the turbo was whistling like mad on fast idle then settled down a little when starting to warm up ... Now I'm a diagnostic tech for land rover so know my fair share on motors with out blowing my own trumpet lol ... This whistle really put me off to be fair it sounded like it was just about to let go or as if it's been played with and running quite a bit of boost ... so can and one who's got a vrs confirm if this is normal for one of these engine or is it showing it's on its way out or it's been mapped ??? Thanks

Hey welcome to the forum

Ermm firstly gear stick question could be:

Ring on the owners hand

Done more than 50k clocked millage

Gear stick has been changed

Turbo side could be:

Turbo worn maybe on its way out

Boost leak

Sports cat fitted

It's not normal for the turbo to whistle on idle. If it's been mapped and it's got fsh, wouldn't the owner have kept receipts for any engine modding? And old mots so you can verify the mileage?

Mines on 175k and although the leather on the gear stick is worn, the numbers and logo are fine.

You know what you're doing so if it doesn't quite add up in your mind, save your money for one that does.

Thanks for the replies .... That's what I thort walk away as soon as it fired up .... I thort ring on finger as suggested about the gear stick but steering wheel was fine so that dident ad up aswell ...

There's plenty of fabia vrs out there keep looking and there few nice one on car for sale section have a look

Mine whistles on idle and is quite a noisy turbo in general driving. Been like that for 6 years and 60k+ miles.

As for the gearstick mine has a receipt from the first owner who had to have the numbers replaced after only 17k. So there could have been a dodgy batch made.

Sounds like the egr whistling on idle?

vRS logo shouldn't be worn at 50k, unless they have very sweaty hands.
