Boot locking behaviour

Not been able to test the boot light with a multimeter yet as I haven't been able to borrow one.

I know the bulb and holder are both good. I've removed those and tested them.

Got a multimeter if you want to borrow one Karl

Thanks. Do you know what to do with it? (I only sort of know...)

Unfortunately I very busy next week - a days work, a training day, a meeting day, a job interview day and a day drive the Yeti (to the interview in Exeter).

Guess which day I'm looking forward got the most?

Can I PM you about the week after when I know what is going on then?

Just about, but the instructions are with it. Fairly easy to use.

Sorted many a problem with it.

Let us know when you want it, one of the lads from work will drop it off as he passes your way home. No rush back as have another at work.

Interesting development.

Testing this morning and it (eventually) self locked!

I don't know how long it took as I got bored of waiting after 1 minute and went indoors to do something else. But when I came back, it was locked.

Will test further to see if this is consistent behaviour.

The Octavia used to lock instantly - is that what everyone is experiencing? Or is there a (significant0 delay in auto locking the boot?

Just tested mine with the following results:-

Car locked, alarm set

  • push middle button on key fob
  • alarm beeps twice, indicators flash twice, boot door unlocks and de-catches
  • shut boot door firmly
  • boot door locks instantly, indicators flash once, alarm beeps once

The car is now fully locked and alarmed again.

I can't remember you mentioning anything about the alarm settings in this thread. What is happening to your alarm when you unlock your boot and have you checked the interior sensor override on the driver's B pillar?

It would seem that if the boot knows it's open or shut then there is probably another system related to boot closure to blame.

Thanks for checking yours. Much appreciated.

Based upon my previous Skoda experiences, what you have is what I would expect.

I have used the interior sensor override and, as far as I can tell, it works.

Although I don't think I have actually tested the alarm to see if it goes off. Guess what I'll be doing tomorrow?

Found this in the manual...

If the vehicle was locked with the button  on the remote control key before the boot lid was closed, the lid is automatically locked as soon as it is closed. The delayed automatic locking function of the boot lid can be activated on your vehicle. The following applies following activation of this function: If the boot lid was locked with the button  on the remote control key 2 » page 35, then it is possible to open the lid within a limited period of it being closed. If you wish, a ŠKODA Service Partner can activate or deactivate the delayed auto- matic locking of the boot lid. The Service Partner will also provide any further in- formation that is required. There is a risk of unwanted entry into the vehicle before the boot lid is locked au- tomatically. Always lock the vehicle using the button  on the remote control or with the key if no remote control is available » page 34.

The fact that it possible "to activate" so many different functions makes the handbook more confusing compared to the 'good ol' days' where the handbook was THE bible. Activations are the two edge sword to me.

Pity the second hand buyer trying to work out why things happen the way they do.

Right. Back to the manual I go as I didn't see that bit.

Wonder if I can change this delayed locking behaviour with VCDS?

Thanks, but on p.44 my manual states something different...

After closing the boot lid, it is automatically locked within 2 seconds and the anti-theft alarm system* is activated. This applies only if the vehicle was locked before closing the boot lid.

There is nothing about 'delayed locking' in my manual.

And I have tried as many options n VCDS as I can find to change the behaviour, but to no avail.

My 05/2013 manual talks about a delayed locking option which can be turned on by a specialist garage (VAS system?).

When you close your boot does the alarm re-set immediately or is this delayed as well?

I think the delayed locking option is only on newer vehicles. Certainly not something I have seen on anything up to 2011 in the VAG range.

Don't know about the alarm yet. I haven't been able to set it off...

Hope this helps but when I use the boot unlock button on the key fob and then open the boot on closing the boot it locks with the flash of the indicator lights as per normal locking instantly.
