Handbrake handle stiff

Featured Replies

Hi ,  I know this is trivial, but its very irritating.  My handbrake has become stiff to move. It's not the brakes binding.  It appears to be the handle itself  when I pull it up or release it.  Any ideas  would be much appreciated. Hoping for a fix before it gets worse.  Thanks

does it snap back to the "off" position quite happily when you press the button on the handbrake? Could be a cable seizing, can happen before brakes start to bind.

I had the same issue on my vRS after about 2 years. I had a part replaced under warranty (on the lever) but i forget what it was.....

Not very helpful i realise

Same thing happened to mine.Sprayed the base of the handle (the slidy bits in the slot) with WD40. No problems since.

Have a look at the gaiter / blind that is wrapped around the handbrake - it can bind in the rails

otherwise, it's probably a cable

That would be my first guess. If it's easier one way than the other, that'll almost definitely be it. Which ever way it's harder is the side it's folded up on as it's creating extra resistance as it buckles up. Pretty cheap and easy to replace, or just try flipping it round, which is how I got round it. Works fine now.

Thanks guys for all the help. Will get onto it in the near future and I'm sure I will be able to solve it with all these suggestions. Cheers Ken
