What do we get for our money?

Featured Replies

Just had my 1.6 CR tDi serviced by an independent VAT registered garage. Looking around after , I found 2 screws not replaced holding the undertray and one hose and one wire not replaced in their clips under the top engine cover.  The first dealership that is brave/honest enough to film my car as they work on it and give me the DVD will be over run with work in seconds!

It is high time that this is compulsory in main dealerships as in my experience these "gentlemen" are the biggest offenders.

I watch them do mine through the glass.... and I caught the test drive on the in car camera.... hhhhmmmm I 'll keep that vid for bargening power if I ever need it!

The problem is that very few workshops have viewing facilities and you are not allowed in on "Health and Safety

Grounds". This is how/why so many are getting away with things.

Audi have the option when booking it in to have all work on video. At work we always use magnetic trays to hold the screw and if one is missing we keep stores of new screws to fit in replacement. Mind you when paying £600 to service a M5 you kind of expect that.

MOT Test Stations have Safe Viewing areas.

& VOSA have done Pilot Schemes with Webcams in Test Bays (Motorbike Test Tables)

and the Examiner logs into test, and online can be asked by VOSA to look at certain items, eg Non Standard Brakes, Exhausts etc.

So that will quite possibly be coming in the not to distant future.

& that could be watched by the Registered Keeper etc.

Main Dealers with Modern Workshops & Waiting Rooms with Internet etc can very easily have Cameras in the Bays,

& Owners / Keepers in the Waiting Room, or at home / work can watch.

You know where the complaints will come from, employees.

But it is hardly different from Call Centre staff being Monitored, or many workers such as Packers, Drivers etc that are Tracked on

Location & Performance.
