New car collection query.

Featured Replies

I collect a new car tomorrow, it's a stock car, infact they've had it in for a few months.

I have collected a new car before but this time it's slightly different, it's a pre reg but still has only delivery miles on it. It was registered in April.

My question is being as it's registered in April I was told I have the balance of the warranty left on it up to 3 years old, which I have accepted as it runs from when first registered.

My query is would I need to get it serviced next April (it will be 12 months old from 1st reg) or would it be from date of purchase, so next November. I just worried about the warranty side of things. Anyone been in this situation buying a new or pre reg car?

I would think the mileage / time based servicing would start once the car has been put in to proper use.  Although you could argue time standing should count.

Personally I'd get it serviced next April to align when it was first registered, that way you can't be wrong. In 2 1/2 years time it'll need a MOT anyway so if you service it on its 1st birthday you'll be able to get both done at the same time when its 3 years old.

This is what I was thinking time or mileage. I would never exceed say 10k miles per year, at best I may do 7k. And if the service inspection indicator hasn't been reset then it will be calling for a service anyway come April next.

The Warranty will be expiring at the same time as the MOT is due,

you probably want it serviced before the Warranty Expires and any Warranty work done.

So is it on Fixed Servicing, eg 372 Days / 9,400 miles (10,000)  or Variable Servicing.

EDIT, sorry still trying to send as the post above was up.

My Citigo was a pre reg (May 13) and was serviced in May 14 at one year old and 9K miles. My dealer said its one year 10K miles.

I don't know yet what the service schedule will be, but I usually go for 10k or 12 months whichever come first.

I think armed with a little knowledge now I will ask a few questions about it tomorrow. Sounds though it's best as suggested to take it for a first service in April to keep it aligned with it's third service/inspection and MOT.
