I have a 54 plate Octavia Ambiente 1.9 tdi. It has started on the last few trips after 10 minutes to ping and the temp light on the dashboard flashes. The gauge temp goes up to red hot 130 degrees then this goes off after about 20 seconds and is fine for the rest of the journey. I pulled over last night and checked the engine coolant but the levels were fine. It was fine for the rest of the 50 mile journey home from work but did the same after going round a bend this morning. Same thing fine after about 10 seconds of major panic. Can anyone help please.

Wonder if your thermostat is sticking? Getting to that time of year..
