Egr pipe blowing off casing boost leak?

Featured Replies

Right boys and girls.... Just had wheel off and arch liner to check intercooler and pipes for boost leaks. Bottom intercooler hose is cakes in black gunk. But dosnt move when revved. The top Pupe however attached to egr. Blows off the seal when revved. Is this a cause of a boost leak? Guessing the oil and soot ect is dropping down onto the lower intercooler pipe area? Tried zip tying it. But pressure too much to hold it, it still pops put breaking the seal. Plus would probably melt them anyways.

Iv attached a pic for reference.

Guessing this needs replaced?!

Thanks fellow Briskodians!

Self tappers are your friend

.... in the meantime, wait for it to cool down and re-tighten ;)

Haha yea tried that....they failed miserably! LOL! As soon as the pressure built up they may aswell been chocolate laces.

Yea have read about the self tappers, my top inter-cooler hose seems to have been done by previous owner. Take it you just self tap into the plastic where the metal clip sits?

Id remove the egr valve and do it away from the car to make sure you have no swarf getting into the engine

4 self tappers at 90 degree spacings will fix it 100%

You'l have to pilot drill through the egr and then use self tappers

Other option is new top boost pipe but iirc they are about £90

I know what id opt for

Yea drilling through the EGR sound s bit too far out of my hands lol.....Iv just ordered a new boost pipe, £32 quid from TPS. I get trade discount but got a sneaky suspicions its not the correct one as I thought they was about £90 also. But there is only one hose that comes off the EGR. Hard to mess up lol.

Just DIY replace it, guide on here probably cost you about 60quid

I think there might be two...  The one you're calling the EGR pipe, and the one that carries the exhaust gases up from the manifold, shown as item 5 here. I'd be surprised if that one was only £32 trade, but worth checking what part number you've ordered.

The one you're after is item 6 here, isn't it?

So have changed the pipe......hasn't made a blind bit of difference...still popping off just like the old one. Any ideas what the hell is going on? I did look insiode egr and it seriously needs  clean! Don't know if carbon has built up in the grooves the lugs are supposed to sit in so it isn't sitting correctly??? Have zip ties the **** out of it and it has made it better. But not 100% any one else had this issue?

I would double check that you have the clip installed correctly. A new pipe shouldnt blow off

Yea I would of thought the same thing, its the clips that hold it in and stop it popping off completely,  It also isnt sitting in tight on the plastic pipe end either looks like the recess on that for the lugs has worn down. So gonna jubilee clip it.

I think the recesses on the EGR have just packed with **** so the Lugs on the pipe are not sitting into the recesses fully and causes them to slip out easy. EGR coming off this weekend for a clean and its shockingly grubby and built up.

So ill keep you posted if it changes anything.

Had the same problem so put this together from a guide on here. 1C15E8F4-456A-4FA0-8A08-FE192975AEEB.jpg The new bayonet fitting and alot better quality. all in about £80-£90

Ah no way mate was looking for the thread with you in and this set up as wanted to go down that route! I fitted the new pipe which I got cheap enough but it still don't sit in flush. Not sure if they are designed to give a little but it still comes about 4cm off the EGR Under pressure. Cleaned EGR. Still no joy, Where did you get it from bud? Is that Hose off the EGR just jubilee clipped over it? Im all over that where was it from think you said Ebay?? Gonna go EGR delete too. If you got links DubDub it will be much appareciated :)

Yeah should be, but if you have an egr delete you will only need the bottom coupler for the intercooler. No worries dude

Get a new c clip from tps. Sometimes the clips wear away. Either way the hose shouldn't pop off.

Any issues with the 45degree rather than 70degree stainless dubdub?

no 45deg is fine just need to cut down the hoses a bit really easy job.

gives me another option, thanks I thought you could use a 45, but not seen anyone say they had done

  • 2 years later...

What size coupler do I need for this?
