Bought one of these for SWMBO to lug all the baby gear around in. I though the car was going to be a bit lifeless.... How wrong could I be...

Very comfortable, moves well for a heavish car with a 1.8 16v engine in, loadsa storage, lots of safety features, good MPG.

If they did one with the power of the PD130 lump I would seriously consider selling the Fabia for one.

What cars have you bought and though where going to be a bit lifeless and then actually really liked ?

We have a Multipla that is the dogs. I am too young to have some of the lifeless people carriers on the market place - so when i had the idea of getting a Multipla, the Mrs. was actually quite excited . So we went for a test drive and loved it - so we bought one - top motor !

P.S Tried a Picasso once and found the seat didn't go far enough back ?? Seemed strange as i am only 5'10" ???

I was suprised with the Ibiza PD130, bought it as a cheap commuter and for the Wife to learn to drive in but I was pleasantly suprised.

Hi Ivan.We put the double buggy in the boot of the fabia on Sunday...Had to take parcel shelf out and it still filled the whole boot!

Had to empty kids out the car,car seats and put the whole lot in my Octy.Bit tight on space in the Furby,especially as needed to food shop too!

Might need to chop in the Fabia vRS for a new black vRS estate next year

As for pleasantly surprising cars,Fabia 1.2 htp surprised me a bit and the pd 130 in the superb was surprisingly great for shifting a big car

That is weird as I am 5' 11" and it's fine for me, If you adjust the seat height as well you can get the seat back a few more inches as well

I love the style of the seats as well, they feel like arm chairs and things thing with arm chairs is you can fall asleep in them quiet easily :eek:

Brother in-law has a Picasso. He's quite tall and notices a solid bar type object in the seat which hurts his leg on long trips. He's had the seat changed a couple of times but no luck. He's dumping it soon and probably going back to a Laguna.

she wants a seven seater, not sure what to go for though, if she gets her way with the house then she can keep the 1988 F reg 1.4gl Escort, cracking little car for her!!!!

She doesnt deserve anymore after filling the furb up with petrol last week

Can't beat those 1.7 Isuzu engines. They even use them in generators. Beware though, they aren't indestructable by any stretch of the imagine.

Dad had a 1.8 16v Picasso from new - not bad cars at all... and they do shift for a lardy car! And over 40mpg. Couldn't fault it really, especially for the price

The only car I have been pleasantly suprised with was a 2.0 Primera courtesy car. Bugger it did shift!

I thought a Chrysler Neon may make a good compromise car (reasonable on fuel, go and comfort). I test drove one and was impressed. Bought one and carried out a few mods:

Jetex panel filter

Removed bonnet seal along rear edge

Threw away the Goodyear GSA and fitted Firestone F700

The removal of the bonnet seal drops the air temp under the bonnet, combined with the Jetex filter, this gave an noticable increase in performance. The Firestones transformed the handling completely. The car weighs about the same as a Ford Fiesta and has a 2.0L 16v 135 BHP engine, so it often surprised folks with its pace.

Refinement when working it hard was not good, however, the tall gearing, about the same as a Fabia vRS, made for relaxed cruising. Very comfy seats too.

Fuel economy was good. For commuting it averaged around 35mpg, on a long run, you could do 90 all day and see 43+mpg. So better than the Fiesta Zetec it replaced on fuel, speed, handling and noise.

Quality wise, the interior was not up to Europen standards of feel, however the whole thing was completely rattle free.

The guy who came round to buy it (for his dad) test drove it and preferred it to his Focus 2L.

A very underrated car.

They do the 1.6 HDI...only 90bhp....but I imagine is pulls better.

SWMBO had a 1litre Yaris before her current Mazda Premacy...surprisingly nippy and will happily cruise a 80mph on the m-way all day.

SWMBO has a 1.3 Hyundai Getz which is a cracking little car. Thought it'd be pants!

The 2.0 hdi is 90bhp the 1.6hdi is 110bhp but yes the 1.6 is by the looks of things a good engine.

Is it the same engine found in the HDGTi (or whatever) 206?

If so they're very revvy - more petrolly than dieselly.

New 1.6HDi engine is also used in the new Focus. Very tunable. Get one chipped and you can get 155Bhp out of it.

Joint venture between Ford and Citroen. I'm not a fan of either manufacturer but the top reviews this engine is getting would be persuasive if i'd didn't have an Octy on the way. Trouble is, a Focus with the same spec a the Octy i'm getting is over

It's actually screwed together better than alot of new cars I have driven which is great for a 5 year old motor.
