What have people tried? 

 

We have the nice official sill protectors for each door, but it would be good to protect the boot when loading things in and out.

 

I know you can get the VW Up! sticker style (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BRAND-NEW-GENUINE-VW-up-Bumper-Protection-Film-/321491639227), but has anybody tried this? Or something better?

Have one on my car that extends up the side of the boot opening to the base of the rear lights.  Advertised as only for pre-FL MkII vRS but fits my FL perfectly.

 

There are threads about these.

I've used these on three of my cars. Good service and good design.

I have carbon fibre look vinyl on the rear bumper and the sills.
