Your MPG? 1.2 TSI

Featured Replies

Had my 1.2 TSI about 2 months now and I am slightly shocked that I cannot even get 400 miles to a full tank and when I fill it I see petrol come up the pipe I like to get as much in as possible  :D

Very rarely have I seen my Average MPG go over 36mpg

Is this normal? What do others get?

In short runs (less than 5miles) I usually get around 30-35MPG. On a decent length run, I can expect around 50MPG. The best I have seen was 58MpG average and that was on the way back from castle Combe.

I have the 85PS TSI in mine.  Mixed driving I am getting around 41 or 42 real MPG when measured brim to brim (not on the maxidot readout which is inaccurate).

I'm getting around that from a VRS, although I'm mostly on business miles and drive pretty chilled out. Do you drive it quite hard?

I get around 40 mpg, mostly back and forward to work which is about 7.5 mls each way.

On a run I get in the high 40s, sometimes nudging 50 mpg, it's not epic fuel economy but not too bad for the relatively short journeys I do.

I've had it 18 mths now and done just over 9000 mls and the Trip 2 on the Maxidot says I've averaged about 43 mpg over that time.

I found that 50mpg was achievable once it was run in (1.2/105 DSG) driving 30 miles x 2 every day - Fuelly chart. It will do less in the winter though.

Also on the indicated MPG, personally I've found that to be just slightly overstated in the cars I've owned. But very close.

Best car I have owned for fuel efficiency were the 1.9 TDI in the Fabia vRS.

I would still have that today if I didn't have so many problems with it at the time :/

As for 50mpg - I decided tonight to go for a run and I opted for the motorway and yes when the Oil Temp says it is around 90 the mpg do start climbing :)

With almost 18k on the clock our 2 year old Monte TSI 86 gives low to mid 40's average MPG, as did its predecessor an Elegance TSI 85.

We also have a Spaceback TSI 105 with 5.5k on the clock, which does better with around 48 plus being the norm.

TP

My 1.2 TSI 86 now has 6250 on the clock. From the start I have been very disappointed with the MPG achieved. Town/urban figure is about 41.

On a long steady trip this might reach 44/45 - I get quite envious of the reported MPG's that some forumites apparently get!  What I find fascinating is the fact that the reported MPG can vary so much day to day. Looking at town only figures - one day can be in the mid/lower 30's, and the next day this can change to upper 30's lower 40's. - Go Figure!!!!!

40 for town is pretty good. Bear in mind that there is 20% more energy in diesel fuel, if that is what you are comparing it to.

My 1.2 Tsi 105 with DSG easily averages 40 mpg and 50 ish on a run. I'm a steady driver though :nerd:

I don't keep a daily check or anything but my trips to fill up are few and far between and noticeably better than they were with my little 3 pot 1.2 Htp (70).

Obv depends where you drive n what not.

My HTP does 46-50mpg on most runs though.

Computer reckons its averaged 48mpg so far, over the life of the car.

Edit: that overall average could be over 50 if i was abit steadier.

Im not shy with overtakes where possible and i dont tend to go slow if theres nobody in the way

My vRS mk2 averaged 38.6 mpg. Since Bluespark tuning box 42.1 mpg. Since catback ss exhaust 44.4mpg. All figures are maxidot trip 2 read outs. Driving is a mixture of fast getaways & motorway cruising. All on Tesco Momentum, which I reckon gives me an extra 8-10% mpg.

1.2 HTP (70) is a great little engine.I loved mine.

I am definitely getting better returns though on the 1.2 Tsi (105). The biggest difference I find is cruising at motorway speeds as the 3 pot engine's fuel economy drops whereas my Tsi will still return 50 mpg (ish) at speeds of 70mph or just over. Having said that the performance of the HTP engine is quite remarkable and mine was just as happy at 80mph as 70.

I think the HTP's biggest plus is it's simplicity. Bomb proof and very low running costs overall.

What year was your 70 mate?

The latter ones have a higher fifth gear.

Mine returns 50mpg at around 70mph on motorway runs (:

Drops when you get towards 80 though haha

My 1.2 TSI 105 estate gets just under 40mpg on average most of the time, driving briskly down country roads. Motorway driving I can get closer to 48mpg.

Yes thanks mate, I forgot that they altered the newer ones. Mine was an 07. The only gripe I had was the dramatic loss of mpg at motorway speeds.

Yeah. Mums got a 65bhp polo, 05 plate. The only gripe with that is the motorway. Its doing 3500rpm at 70mph, 4000 at 80mph. Makes motorways feel a little out of the comfort zone.

My 70 is doin 70mph at 3000rpm and 80 at about 3500rpm.

Feels a lot more relaxed and comfy at that speed, returning 50mpg.

Just doesnt shift too well if you boot it to change lanes quickly, but thats to be expected isnt it haha.

I normally get around 55mpg if some parts are downhill but mainly around 50mpg on motorways. Around town I get around 35-40
