I have a fabia, about once a month or so the engine warning light comes on, if you dont stop the car with in 5-10 mins it starts to lose power. However if you stop, turn of the car and restart it the light goes off and the car is fine for another month or so. Any ideas what could be the problem.

 

Also sometimes the car will locks its self for no reason which means Ive had to start making sure I dont leave my keys in the car lol

 

Any help will be great

When you turn the key in the ignition, before you start the car - do you see a lit up battery shape on the dashboard? It's about the same height as thr handbrake light

Which ENGINE do you have in your Fabia?

hi yes the car runs fine (inc dash lights) apart from the odd time it plays up, its the 1.2l

You're going to need to read the fault codes, the CEL means a code has been logged, is it a 6 valve or 12 valve 1.2?

Does your lights-on warning sound work when you have the lights on and open the driver's door?

Hi its the 6v and yes the warning sound works, Im waiting for my code reader to arrive as ive had bad dealings with my local Skoda here in spain before so going to read my own codes lol, just wondered if anyone had a rough idea what might be the cause to help in my search

OK, just asking because the lights-on alarm not working is a sign of a failed microswitch in the door lock unit which causes the doors to lock themselves. Seems the microswitch is OK in your case though.
