102k service interval - details?

Featured Replies

What would this entail and average cost at garage? Biggy or small-y?

I need to check what was done on the last recorded service which was at 99k year and a half ago. Also thinking about doing the oil catch can mod at this time too.

Very few cars of this age have been strictly serviced to schedule. Find out when the following were last done (date & mileage) and report back:

Spark plugs

Air filter

Cabin filter

Fuel filter (not sure if this is actually on the service schedule or not)

Brake fluid

Cambelt

The spark plugs and filters shouldn't take a garage long to fit on top of a basic oil change service because they can be done while the oil is draining out.

I would be doing this myself, pretty easy job. My main con earn would be the cam belt and associated bits...when were these last swapped?

When I bought it last year the garage I bought it from supposedly did an interim service but I don't believe they did and they didn't stamp the book either. Bunch of lying pricks.

Last recorded service was end of 2012 - brake and oil no air filter. I got the belt and water pump replaced a few months ago. Most of the stamps are long life.

OK, I'd do the following - rough cost of parts in brackets:

Engine oil, VW 504/507 spec (£30-40)

Oil filter (£5)

Air filter (£10)

Cabin filter (£10)

Spark plugs, make sure the correct NGK ones are used! (£40)

Brake fluid, DOT 4 or 5.1. Recommended internal is 2 years but many people leave it longer than that (£10-20)

Fuel filter if you wish (£5-10)

If you take it to a garage make sure they use the correct spec oil and plugs, or just buy the parts yourself from somewhere like euro car parts.
