Loose scuttle panel

Featured Replies

Hi guys

sorry if this one is a bit silly - changed my pollen filter today, I didn't look at how the left side of the scuttle panel (looking at it with the bonnet open) sat before I changed the filter, but after i couldn't get it to sit flush with the glass, so water is just going to run down behind it. It just didn't want to click back like the other side did. Is this a problem, or will it be okay if I just leave it?

It should clip back into a groove running along the bottom of the glass.  I had mine off the other day, getting the alignment should be pretty easy, and then I tapped it down with my fist.

Left side = drivers side, which should be the second of the 2 panels to go back down.  Suggest you check there is nothing trapped - washer pipe for the jets maybe?

There's nothing really obstructing it, it just doesn't really sit flush. Maybe one of the clips is broken. Seems like it may have been that way for a while.

I had a good line of uninterrupted dirt on the windscreen where it had been before I did the same for pollen filter. It did take a proper fist smack to reseat it (more than I like to use on plastic) but as long as you make sure all clips are lined up should be ok. Worst case take it all off again (I assume you removed wiper arms etc first?) and try it again and make sure no crud built up anywhere stopping it sitting flush. 1 clip not making it in will cause a gap half way along each piece I'd say.

I did it the lazy way and didn't remove the wipers.
Perhaps I'll have to have another go tomorrow, although one of the rubber bungs around the base of the wiper was totally unseated anyway which was probably letting in a fair amount of water.

Took the wiper arms off and had a proper look, the strip of plastic on the underside that clicks into place under the windscreen has broken off along more than half of it, which explains why it won't go down right. Looks like I'll just get a new one. Cheers :)

TBH a thing strip of good quality black tape thats water proof would sort you in the sort term and possibly the long term as it wouldn't be very noticeable. That's that I would do and then keep eye out on ebay for replacement cheap.

Aye true enough. I think it's probably been leaking for a while anyway.

Or the for sale section on here - plenty of people breaking octys at the moment.

Be carefull, I changed my pollen filter outside... in the dark... and managed to crack my windscreen refitting the scuttle!

Its very easily done :(

Do the job in the warmest temp you can at this time of year, and warm the scuttle panel up with a hairdryer before you fit it.
