Insurance Question

Featured Replies

Right.. heres my situation...

the insurance on my clio runs out on the 22nd of november this year.. by which time i will have (allegedly) 5 years NCB.

problem is, my new Fabia vRS will arrive beginning of october..

should i bother changing my existing insurance over to the vRS for the month thats left? bearing in mind that im insured with renault insurance at the moment and dont know if they will give a decent quote on a non renault..

*or* do i let the policy run out.. if so, if i then told my new insurance company, will i get a rebate for the extra years NCB?

or will the insurance company take the 11 month ncb into account?

cheers

Insurance companies must get this all the while - and I would hope they'd take into account the 11 months you've had insurance with Renault. I've never been in your situation yet, but I'm sure someone else has.

My little querk, was I started afresh with More Th>n when I bought my car with a free years no-claims. Then I couldn't get my sis on the policy as a learner so CNX it after two months, carrying the years NCB with me. :D. Then, now I've been with Tesco for 2 years, I have 3 years NCB and guess who I've just got insured with for my third year? Yep, More Th>n, with 3 yrs NCB from 2 yrs,2 months insurance cover. :D

edit: just though - Renault are very unlikely to rebate you for one months policy unused, so I would let that run out and just start again with the new company (assuming they recognise the 11 months and Renault provide a shocking quote)

Will you still have the Renault or is that going when the RS comes?

If it's going then just cancel you insurance on the Renault and get the RS insurance (with whatever company) to start on the delivery date. You many get a month rebate if it's a complete month (obviously assuming you've paid up for a complete year).

so whats this more th>n free year ncb then? do they still do it?

I think the free ncb year is an introductory thing.

Should be ok to cancel you rinsurance on the Renault; this sort of thing happnes all the time and there should be a small rebate. However I would check the small print of your insurance details as they might give you a minimum time for rebate i.e. 1 month before renewal date.

It was indeed, as above, just an introductory offer for people like me at the time who was starting from the beginning with 0 years NCB (had been a named driver only for 5 years since passing my test). It doesn't apply if you still have NCB.

You might get the 1yr NCB with 11 months. I know elephant used to, maybe still do give 1 year for 10 months.

Perosnally I would see what the extra is for the remaining period, then change. Or if Renault are really bad then kick up a fuss and try to get that NCB Cert. So really as what has been said. Also might I lend my support to Liverpool Victoria, protecting from 4 years and for the first time ever, my quote actually went down after my birthday, actually by nearly 70 pounds, glad I forgot to sort it sooner now.

BARSTWARDS!

just spoke to Liverpool Victoria.. they dont know what the car is, and wont quote me.. and they cant tell me when they will be able to quote me... shoddy!!!

You could confirm the car is officially going to be group 9A (quote Ms.Loki) - that may help?

I tried that.. but they were generally being ignorant and threw me off the line

just got a quote from Direct line tho:

22? I think you're about the only person apart from Rob who is younger than me... and as for your six points. tut tut. :D

That direct line quote looks 5hit-hot BTW - I'd be chuffed with that considering I was paying more than that for my TDI a couple of years ago. The excess is quite low too - I think mine is nearly

i know... im quite impressed, i was expecting at least 800..

ill put the money in the pot towards jabba :D

well out of about 10 insurance companys ive phoned.. only elephant and directline have the car on their database.. oh well, direct line it is :)

Just shows it pays for insurance companies to get details of new release cars a.s.a.p - must get those first on the ball some good business, simply because no-one else knows anything about the car

Right..

after talking more indepth with Direct line about the insurance.. turns out that you cant use ncb on 2 cars and if i cancelled my current insurance, i would lose the 11 months of ncb.

sooo, im going to pay the extra

 Insurance is SOOOO screwy sometimes. I assume you've seen Mr Peck's piccies of his new Fabia RS?

w00t!!!!

thanks for tellin me :D

id not noticed them.... damn it looks gorgeous (but bit high)

cant wait for mine now :drive1:

Damnit - I really want the pics of mine lowered so I can put them on here... - I verified the 30mm change using some kind of device with hooks & screws on it. Was about 25/30mm, and that was straight after fitting too, not even after settling.

And the drive - WOAH, no bodyroll (ok, a little bit) and the car just goes around bends, at (almost ) whatever speed you like. :D

are you going to be driving on the national meet on saturday?.

as long as theres a few non-1.8t engined cars there.. then i can keep up in me clio :)

I'm going - and there will be quite a few non-1.8T's there.

Anyway, some of them may vouch that I managed to "keep up" with them on a little RPM tour drive out. Something like, it's not the size that counts, it's just the way you wiggle it...? Or something like that at least.

i particuarly like this sentance

"Quick mention to the Clio boys, can't believe that you didn't hit that wall on that muddy corner from hell straight after the temporary lights and photo stop, and don't tell me it was a controlled tail slide going completely sideways!"

:drive1: :1:

cant wait till saturday!!!

my little 1.4mpi is going to be there so i think i will hold title of slowest car present or i could borrow a mate of mines vectra sri 150 (?) could be fun might need your jump leads jason. :D

My Octavia vRS is insured with Renault insurance as my 172 Cup was written off with 6 months of my policy remaining. No extra charge as they are the same insurance group.

Price will be same as Direct Line as they are all part of the same company along with Tesco and Privalege.

If your insurance was free with the car when you re-insure with Renault for the second year you get 6 years no claims.

4 years free for me... it was the cheapest quote anyway at the time.
