Hi there

I found my car had some rattles new especially when cold but once it warmed up they seem to disappear.

Hi there

I don't think I've ever bought a new Skoda that didn't have some rattles and the glovebox area seems to be a common one in the Superb.  I find that a lot of them do disappear in a short space of time however.  I would let the car settle a bit first before getting too concerned.  Don't underestimate the impact of the colder weather as Danny says above.  The car's interior panels are mainly constructed of hard plastics and there will be a certain amount of friction with hot and cold temperatures.

Whereabouts in the car are you experiencing the noises, apart from the glovebox?  I find the dash area (especially the passenger side) is one that seems to have little buzzing and vibrating noises at times but in my experience temperature is usually the culprit.  Of course, take it back to the dealer if these noises persist for any length of time and if there are noises around the doors you should get the doors adjusted.  Have a quick search on this site as there are lots of threads on here on various noises an vibrations especially creaking from doors, with some useful solutions too!  My fix for the glovebox was putting very thin strips of adhesive felt pads on one of the sides where they panels meet on.  There are adjustments that can be made to the hinge as well.

Nothing worse than annoying noises on a new car but hope you can enjoy it apart that and happy motoring with your new Superb!

On the doors cards it seems like small pieces of plastic are being loose...if it makes any sense.

I know exactly what you mean - it could be the speakers in the doors....they can rattle a bit sometimes or vibrate against the door cards.  Do you have upgraded speakers?

You seem to have quite a few rattles there alright  .  I have a slight vibration on the B pillar/wing mirror and its been here since the first day I bought it.  Not overly annoying but noticeable sometimes but goes away with changes in temperature.  For the rear door there is some adjustment that can be done on the door strap or it may have been under lubricated.  Is the door more noticeable as you go around a corner? As I said there are a few threads on this.

I presume you have checked for anything loose in the boot area, remember there are side storage compartments and the spare wheel area under the boot which contains jack and tool kit - you could use some foam in there if these items are moving around.

Nope. The rattles seems to com from the top area of the door card.

Yes, I'e read a few threads about this issues but mine seems to have every-single  rattle mentioned on this forum:). Rear door is more noticeable when I park on my drive way as I have to steer  to the right and over a bump, and it feels like the chassis is twisting a bit. I will try lubricate the door's lock  first and if there is no success i'll take to my local dealer.

The rear door does sound like lubrication as I sometimes get the same thing as I turn into my drive and the back wheel hits the lip on the kerb, its more of a creaking noise.  Once I lubricate the seals it takes the creaking away for a few months until it requires lubrication again.  I think I'd be taking the car back though as you have long list there.....

If it's that bad, and a new motor, I'd take it back too. Get them to sort it all out. Or at least make it manageable.

If you're up for it, you could get some 'cloth' tape VAG use to tape up their wiring looms, it stops rattles quite effectively. Buy a few rolls and spend an afternoon taping up all the trim panels and gaps you find. But on a new car, in warranty, just delivered? I'd take it back first, see what they say.

You are absolutly right is more like a creaking noise.

I also consider to take the door cards out to try solve it myself as is suspect that there are some wires that are loose that cause the rattles. Does anyone knows were I can find a diagram with the clips, that hold the door card in place?

Thanks

If you are thin you may find the seat belt clip rattles in the centre socket - solved by padding out the bracket away from the seat with foam to change the angle of the clip in the buckle.  My garage tried for 2 days to sort this - unsuccessfully. I did it in two minutes once someone pointed out what the problem was!

I'd advise you to take the car back, let the dealer handle it while in warranty. Door cards can be finecky to remove, and if you break something, taking the car back to the dealer is going to be tricky.

I certainly agree.....not worth it with the warranty.  By buying a new car you've already paid a premium for the benefit of having the warranty so get maximum benefit from it!

Had a few rattles on mine. Once identified I wedged a bit of my favourite stuff between the two rubbing surfaces and silence! I use sticky backed foam tape from Armaflex for sealing pipe lagging. It's about 50mm wide x 3 mm thick. Just cut it to whatever size you need. It sticks well and being black you don't see it. It's, well, superb! Main rattle was from the front double cup holder, the ashtray lid where it meets the dash and lately the LHS dash air vent(the glove box rattle)-open the passenger door, prise off the dash end panel and push in the barb type clips on the back of the vent. It pops out very easily and apply a bit of foam tape around the sides and pop back in. Agree with Too Tall though -get the dealer to sort it!

Just be glad you don't have a sunroof - when that gets creaky it's insanely intrusive :P. It can be solved immediately by opening the sunroof one click and closing it again, but until I tracked the noise down I thought the passenger door was the problem. A bit of Gummi Pflege on the door, boot and sunroof seals every so often will keeps it all pretty silent though. For the rattle towards the B pillar in the driver and passenger doors, spraying grease (The sort that thickens a lot as it dries) into the door latches - spray upwards into the pivot of the latch - will usually do the trick. I mentioned this to one of the mechanics while the car was in for trailer wiring (Free upgrade to 13 pin electrics) and he gave me a spray can of Q-Pro Quantum Maintenance Spray, which he said they used in the workshop for exactly this job. They also gave me an ice scraper and a tin of de-icer on that trip - all small things, but it shows that some dealers haven't forgotten what customer service means...

Hi,

I know that I have a warranty but I have so much unpleasant experiences with the Dealers that I really want to avoid them as much as possible.

I wanted to do it myself because I'm sure I can be more careful with my door cards than an average mechanic would. I've seen on my other cars what a so called dealer mechanic can do, like not replacing the broken clips or leaving the wires improperly secured.

Also, they will probably not acknowledge that there any rattles in my car at all, or only part of them, and this will make my blood boil )).

If you will do a Google search on "Brand New Citroen DS5 - plenty of faults and bad paint job" you will understand why I just do not trust them at all. You will find this story on plenty of forums, Facebook or Twitter.

I will book my car eventually to try fix the rear door squeaks if this proves to be caused by misalignment. But otherwise nope... there is plenty of info that can be useful to me right hear on Briskoda.

Yesterday I have discovered another rattles coming from the engine compartment, probably from the heat shield area. I've never had so many rattles on a brand new car. This is rattles should of been dealt with by Skoda by now, I mean this is an old model. My previous Skoda was a brand new Octavia II 2008 model with absolutely no rattles whatsoever. What's going on ? Are my years to clean and sensitive? Anyway I really love my car, this are only minor issues that will be dealt with in the end:)

I'm not normally a fan of black wheels but there is something about the white and the fact that it is a combi that makes it look very well!  Good luck with the dealer...

Hard to believe that 10 months has passed since buying my Superb. Had a few rattles from new:

Glove box...... Striker plate realignment. Solved

Back off side door rattle worse when going over bumps., when I looked down the line on the car from the back and compared it to the near side. There appeared to be 2 or 3 mm difference. Dealer said they could not really notice but did as I asked and resigned the striker plate to pull the door in. Solved

Passenger footwell rattle from centre console where the net holder for documents is. Dealer had it in a few weeks ago to put some packing in. Not solved. Unfortunately it is more noticeable when the car is very warm and particularly over uneven surfaces and is getting worse. Sounds like pipes rattling. Dealer was struggling to hear it did attempt to solve it.

Due one year oil change in January so will wait this then and ask them, to have another look. I suspect if is not easy to remove the panel for an inspection. :notme:

  • 2 weeks later...

A bit of Gummi Pflege on the door, boot and sunroof seals every so often will keeps it all pretty silent though.

Thanks for this tip. Used one of these sticks in the week, really easy to use, and really effective on the little creak emanating from one of the passenger doors. Did all the seals on the car - took me 30 mins.

I've used silicon spray or pledge
