An Oily question.

Featured Replies

My vRS is 220 miles ish old. I've been checking the oil daily [this won't carry on forever, I can assure you. I'm jsut being overly cautious whilst running in!] and it's not moving, so calms my nerves about noting being able to find any 505 01 oil. I've not been to a dealer yet, as I'd rather try getting some from the smaller one-off shops, but to not avail.

Anyway, I had a butchers at sticky list - some are fully synth, and some are semi. In my book, Skoda recomend the Shell Helix one which is semi. Is one type better than another? What is in my engine? Can you mix semi/fully synth oils?

Yours, somewhat puzzled, not knowing the indepth world of engine oil,

Matt.

mmm,i'm pretty technically inept when it comes to oil too. I just topped mine up with the only brand of 505.01 i could find. It was Castrol TXT and, touch wood, no probs so far!

Just get some from Halfords (Shell Helix). Dont get what your problem is?????? OR................ Go to the dealer !!!! :D:rofl:

You should have done what I did. When I picked mine up I asked the dealer a million questions about the correct oil to use, where I could get it, how much it would cost, etc, etc, etc. In the end he gave me a litre for free just to shut me up :D If you've only done 220 miles, then it would be prudent to keep some in the boot because you will use a bit in the first 1000 miles, and then just a tiny bit up to about 5000 miles, after that you'll be OK, but it's good policy to keep a top up bottle in the boot for when you need it..

Yup plan to do the same. Will torture the dealer until he throws in a litre of oil. It equates to 0.05% of what the car is costing so it shouldn't be a problem.

Semi synthetic is a no-no. Go to Halfords and get the Castrol. Cheaper than the dealer unless he gives you a discount.

Just give oilman a ring, and it turns up next day. :)
