Scout 4x4

Featured Replies

Hi, first time i've posted here.  I am looking at buying an Octavia Scout 4x4 diesel, all the ones that I can afford have high milage.

Would any of you have any issues buying a car Reg 2007+ with 68000 miles or more on the clock.

I'd like to hear what you think.

Welcome to Briskoda!

68,000 miles on a 2007 car is actually low mileage.

Average mileage these days is 12,000/year so a 7 year old car should have more like 84,000 miles on it.

The Scout is pretty tough.

Check that the Haldex (4x4) system has had it's oil changed at 40,000 miles.

Get under the car, or get it up on some ramps to check for oil leaks on the rear diff / transfer box.

The alloys will have delaminated by now, a common issue on the Scout Proteus alloy wheels.

Make sure the engine oil has been changed regularly, ideally go for one that has been on fixed service intervals (10,000 miles / 12 months, whichever is reached first).

This will mean the the PD cam lobes (renowned for wear on cars either on long life servicing or cars where the wrong oil has been used) will be well lubricated in addition to the turbo.

The diesel Scout is fitted with a DPF (diesel particulate filter). The low annual mileage might mean that the DPF has had a tough life.

Also be aware that the Scout is a favourite for farmers, vets and the emergency services which mean there are lots out there that have had a hard time.

I have a 2008 Scout with 127.5k miles on it with no major issues and no plans to get rid of it. Plenty of life in the old girl yet.

I have a June 2010 model done 70k miles. Had new water pump under warranty but nothing else major.
