Replacement Aerial

Featured Replies

I've unscrewed my aerial as it was catching on my lockup door (wasn't doing any harm but it annoyed me) - is it possible to buy a stubbier one?

I never listen to the radio (so it doesn't have to work very well, if at all), I just want something that looks aesthetically pleasing.

Look on eBay if you really aren't bothered about radio reception (or TMS / TPMS).

There are loads for a couple of quid. But you'll most likely lose reception.

Can't recall whether it's 7 or 8 mm thread. Check first.

I bought one off eBay mate for about 3 quid. Looks so much better, only problem is that the colour has gone to ****. instead of being shiney black, it's now gold! Haha. Much prefer the look of stubby ones though.

What years your car?

I take it youve already got skodas version of the 'stubby'?

Sep 2010.

If you search on EBay you can buy an OE stubby Areil from a VW. Mine is about 2" long and looks like it should be part of the shark fin sat Nav ariel on my Tech.

It's black rubber and is the exact match for the shark fin, mine actually comes from Citreon, it was sold by a Citreon dealer but they fit all of the VW stable as well as Mini, paid about £7 delivered.

Be wary of the cheap bee sting type as the reception from them can be poor.

I think you got the last of the "Longer-thin- twisty" type ones. Later cars have the Thicker, shorter ones from a VW Golf, etc.  Neater but as mentioned above, the VERY_VERY short Citroen ones fit good and are ok-ish for reception. Keep the other in the boot for longer journeys!

Yeah, my original ariel is in the boot in the pouch that the free oil is in. I've never had any problems with reception and there's been no drop or loss. I think because it's an OE part then the quality element is built in rather than the cheap aluminium or wire bee stings.

Not a very good photo, light's rubbish at the back of the garage but you can see what the stubby looks like.

Why the fin? Is that dab or sat nav or something?

That's the standard base of the ariel on the Tech or any Fabia with standard Satnav, it has the satellite receiver built in.

The standard radio ariel that should be fitted is about 7-8 inches but I replaced it with the stubby one, makes it look better IMO anyway, it's more Audiesque !!

I got the citroen stubby on my standard base. looks very small and kinda cute but would really prefer the standard stubby(?) just wasn't gonna waste cash as the littlun is fine.

Genuine stubby part no:

6R0 035 849 it's about £15 from dealer and it's 200mm long [emoji106]

I've never had a problem with them and great reception.

Mine has the stupidly long twisty ariel on and it's an 11 reg. When did they introduce the stubby type exactly?

They started on all models around 2010 I think?

Looks so much better too [emoji4]

Thats strange.

The stubby came in with the facelift. So 2010

Well here's the photographic proof:

Looks like a CB ariel in comparison to some. Why can't they just go with the clean, no ariel look?

Could it have maybe been replaced with the wrong type at some point in its life? I suspect the fixings will be the same?

Having said that my 13 plate Citigo and my 64 plate Rapid had the long aerials fitted so I changed them both with the shorter one [emoji106]
