Creaking/squeaking when braking in the wet

Featured Replies

Hi all,

My VRS has developed an annoying fault where it creaks when braking in the wet. It doesn't seem to do it at all in dry conditions, no matter what I throw at it, but in the wet it can do it with even with gentle braking, getting worse with harder breaking.

It tends to be sort of the last second or two just as the car comes to a halt.

In the cabin it sounds quite squeaky, but with the windows down it's much louder and makes more of a creak (if that makes sense??). Also can be felt through the gear stick, but not very strongly. Definitely coming from the front.

Any thoughts??

Clean the Discs,

check the pads,

and put some Copper Slip (Copper Grease) on the back of the pads.

I think this may be bush-related. I have had this problem when, in the ****ing rain, I go over a speed bump and there's a creak/squeak as the wishbones move up and down. I've not heard it in the dry nor in the wet under braking. Actually, it seems to have cured itself recently.

Mine had a squeak from the front before I had the rear bushes in the front wishbones replaced. Put Audi TT ones in if you replace them.

As said, this is nothing to do with the brakes and everything to do with the front suspension arm bushes.

Once they are worn, they squeak like cats when they get wet. I know mine did! All cured with new arms.
