1.9 tdi vrs timing

Featured Replies

Hello

is there a way to check timing visually on a vrs tdi?

thanks sam

Nope nor accurately. Vcds mate.

These need to be bang on.

What do you mean?

It has visual timing marks on the pulleys that line up with marks on the engine/rocker cover.

You can check the advance/retard on the cam by seing how centre the 3 x 13mm bolts are that hold the pulley onto the cam.

having cam sensor problems and one of the possible causes on ross tech wiki is timing missaligned .... then it says check timing.... so wondered how to check timing

It's easy if you have access to vagcom or other diagnostic equipment.

Timing doesn't normally just change, parts can fail and teeth can get ripped off or jump cogs!

Does it run lumpy all the time or?

problems started overnight ..... car doesnt run lumpy but sometimes it takes alot of turning over to start and registers a fault code for cam sensor .... its had a new sensor and still no change

  • Check Timing

But does it ever fix itself and work ok for abit?

Since you've changed the camshaft sensor I can only assume you've checked the belt and all is well?

I used the marks when doing the timing belt and it was off so had to do it again. Vcds showed 5.5 now its -0.5 after fiddling. Gonna try again over new year to see how much better I can get it.

Spec is -3/3

Check the wiring to the sensor, trace it back to the ECU.
