Remote Coding - How to do it?

Featured Replies

One of the buttons on the 3 button remote has stopped working. I've changed the battery twice just in case it was that and it isn't. The lock button works, the boot unlock button works but the unlock button doesn't work.

I don't need the blade/key part, that works fine I just need the remote part. My local dealer have quoted £125 for the remote part coded (£80 for the remote and £45 to code it).

I'm sure I did this on my old mk1 vrs when I had a transponder issue and fixed it myself and coded it but it was that long ago I don't remember what needs to be done. This is a different issue but I hope I can sort it myself.

Can anyone help me identify the part number I need for the remote and where is best to buy one from? (mk2 2007 L&K Octavia Estate) Ive seen some on ebay but don't know if they will work and I don't want a second hand one.

I have VCDS and was hoping someone could tell me what I need to do to code the new remote and spare fob?

I would appreciate anyone's help in case i've missed something or maybe it isn't possible for me to do and has to be done by the dealer.

Many thanks in advance.

I have found this post WRT a fabia mk2 - What details are the same for the Octavia? Part number? coding procedure? etc.

is it the button itself - can it be de-soldered and rep[laced to save buying a whole new one?

I don't know what the problem is exactly but i'm assuming its the button itself. Its quite warn so I thinks its just wear that's the problem as the other buttons work ok.

Sounds like it's the contacts on the button that have gone and not uncommon for such things.  Can you get it apart - they are usually easy enough to replace if you are handy with a soldering iron and can be sourced for pence.  I did three on my mum's alarm remote recently with 5mm micro switches from Bardwells on Anbbeydale Road and the switches cost me about 15p each..

The part number of your existing remote should be visible once you split it from the key portion.

If it's the same as the one in my post you linked to I should think the same coding method will work.
