VRS: Acceleration improving after driving in (first ~1K miles)?

Featured Replies

Hi, all.

Normally after driving in (according to Octavia MK3 owners manual, it's first 932 miles/1500 km), the engine should beging work smoother, MPG should get better and therefore the acceleration should improve.

Based on your experience, how many miles have you done before you feel you VRS acceleration and MPG improved? For example, I've done over 1200 miles on my RS TSI, and MPG is still only 28, while there are no positive changes in acceleration.

Also, despite manual says nothing about it, have you changed the oil after driving in?

Thanks.

Hi my VRS TDI seems to have loosened up a bit at 3k (miles).........downside is fuel consumption increasing as my right foot gets heavier and uses more of the performance........still reasonable at 42mpg mind!

The first 1,000 miles has the coating coming off your Brake Pads & discs & loosening off, the greenness coming off your tyres,

the newness off the bearings, suspension etc getting an easier start to life.

Modern oils do not require 1,000 or 3,000 mile changes,

you are not running in an engine so much as the whole vehicle & the drive train.

Its about being sympathetic if you are buying a keeper.

Often cars are ragged onto the Ferry, maybe to the Delivery, and on the PDI before you get the car or any vehicle.

Many Demonstrators or Hire / Lease cars are ragged from day one and never suffer in the long term,

sometimes the best used cars have spent the first 3,000 miles / 3 months getting the cheapest fuel the Dealership uses,

& then it might well be worth changing oil when you buy one, and do not trust a Service Stamp on a Ex Demo means the Oil

& Filter was actually been changed.
