Blackline Head-unit turning off after only a few mins?

Featured Replies

Hey-up guys. Merry Xmas and all that.

I was giving my Occy Blackline a hoover and polish on the inside today. I had my xmas cd playing while doing it.

However, I noticed that the system was turning itself off after a very short time. When I pressed the power button to turn it back on, nothing happened. I had to put the key in the ignition and half-turn it before it would power-up again and start playing.

I faffed about with some buttons, but couldn't see anything that effects the length of tine the unit stays on before powering down. Am I missing something, or have I developed a faulty head-unit?

Can I just add that there us no problem with it when out driving.

If the battery is healthy I think the unit should stay on for an hour with the ignition off, but if the battery is low it may switch it off earlier to protect the battery and leave you enough power to start the car.  If the battery is very low you won't be able to use the stereo at all without the engine running, and the interior lights won't come on either.

Interesting. The car is just over two years old. Surely there should be no problems at all with the battery?

I wonder if the cold weather would affect the battery?

If there WAS a problem with the battery.....is that under the 3 year warranty?

You weren't using one of those dustbusters via the charging socket by any chance? Could have drained the battery more quickly if so.

Nope. Never have!

Think it turns off offer 20-30 mins. Cannot remember if it comes back on with just a button press or keys needed on mine.

If it's not faulty then the time delay can be extended, using VCDS. Havn't extended mine but needs doing as the turns off far too soon when washing the car.

I'll have to test mine, but don't think its faulty.

Cheers Wookie. But I'm sure that today mine turned off, and after I half-turned the ignition key to get it back on it went off again after about 2 songs.......?

Will try it again tomorrow.

2 songs. Eeek, something wrong there. Definitely stays on a while after being turned back on when washing it.

Possibly.  We had a new battery under warranty on our Octy vRS when it was just over two years old.  Ours got to the point where the interior lights wouldn't come on when the car was unlocked and it 'bonged' at you (audible warning of low battery).

Get battery tested. The acid level could be low.

Arn't they sealed units now though?

I don't know if I'm honest. But even if it is sealed they still have a vapor venting system I believe.

I know it's not a Skoda but my wife's i10 if you use the radio cassette at all with the engine off ,it flashes up low battery, even if it's not.

It would appear to be a thing a lot of newish cars are programed to do,what with all the add on crap they put on them I'm not suprised.

Guys - another little gremlin has started.....

Would a lowish/failing battery stop the auto-locking feature from working? You know, when you get over about 5mph and all the doors automatically lock? My wife noticed this yesterday...........

Is it set on both your keys and have you changed them lately?

I got caught out with this the other day, one key has it set, the other doesnt...

Hmmm. I'm not aware it has ever been altered since new? Im sure both mine and the wife's keys are identical settings?

Just a thought, but does it turn off in the same time if you've got the radio on rather than playing a CD?

I'm just thinking that there will be more power drawn due to the motor spinning the disc, so may help identify the problem as related to power draw (low battery).

I'm just thinking if the battery is failing, and the extreme cold weather we are currently in will make it worse. Maybe the auto locking feature would be affected by this.......?

Mike....what's BCM failure please? Lol.

Isnt it under warranty?

A trip to the dealer?

  • Author

Yep - still under warranty.....but the dealer (Derek Slacks) is about 25 miles away.......

But if I had an idea of what could be happening to forewarn them it might make the process a bit easier.

I hate the process of things like this. You take time off to get the car there. Then they tell you a part is required and you have to do the same all over again.

Adam. I may be wrong, but I thought the key programming for different functions was a feature only available with the memory seat? I tried to set my 2 remotes differently but couldn't.

Mike

Ah yes you could well be correct.  I do have the memory seat.

Ok. I got back into the Blackline this morning.....and the car auto-locked as per usual.

So either the good lady wife is wrong, or it's intermittant, or it might be to do with her key.........but I've never altered any settings on the Blackline on either key?

Hi. Ok, we went out in the Occy today using my wife's keys. Sure enough, as she said, the car did not lock itself when setting off.

I pulled over, and went into the settings.....and the auto locking was turned off. A few prods in a few menu's later and hey presto - back to normal.

So the keys DO have individual settings after all.
