Skoda Fun insurance woes

Featured Replies

I've had my Skoda Fun for a week now and have spent many hours trying to rectify the problem I am having with my insurance company over immobilisers.

The car has a Skoda factory fitted immobiliser as standard, but the insurance company want a Thatcham approved CAT 1 immobiliser in the car, or else it isn't covered for theft or attempted theft. A phone call to the helpful Candice at Skoda customer services revealed that the standard immobiliser is not Thatcham approved, so therefore I can't send the insurance company proof that it has one, making it not covered...

Has anybody else had this problem with a car? What options are there? Can I have another immobiliser fitted alongside the already fitted one?

Any help will be appreciated...

The answers probably yes, suggest you go to a vehicle alarm specialist. On my Octavia RS from new I had a Skoda accessory "Thatcham cat 1" upgrade cat 2->1(Scorpion Alarm) fitted by the dealer, fitted was approx

Mental - most insurance companies will just ask you whether you have a factory fit immobiliser or not. Even if they do, factory fit immobilisers and alarms have little effect on your premiums unless they are top end protection stuff. If your insurance company is saying they can't insure you for it (a) its very unusual and (2) there are plenty out there that will.

My start point would be to tell your insurer that you will ahve to move if taht is their polciy and see what happens. Good luck (and welcome!)

The Felica Fun is classed as a commercial vehicle IIRC not sure if the company you are using have a policy that all comercial vehicle must be fitted with cat 1 alarm. When my son was thinking of buying one of these it was surprising that Tescos dont insure any commercial vehicles so if he had bought one he would have had to move companies.

No disrespect but I wouldn't have thought the Fun to be the most nickable motor on the high street and so I am surprised they ask for a CAT1. Have you tried elswhere?

Alarms are pretty cheap now, try Yellow Pages for a local installer.

Thanks for the replies people!

The previous owner had an alarm fitted and it definitely works! It isn't CAT 1 either though.

yes, the insurers are saying that it is not covered against theft or attempted theft without a CAT 1... All else is insured. Very odd...

Just going to call them again...

Yes, definitely has to be a Thatcham approved immobiliser (not so sure of the CAT) for my policy to stand. Think another insurer may be on the cards... or whichever's cheapest!

Can anybody recommend an insurer that will actually insure a Skoda Fun please? I'm being told they can't do it as "it's not on their systems"!?

Cheers!

Perhaps its on their systems under "Felicia"?

They aren't THAT rare...

Its called a Skoda Felicia Fun not a Skoda Fun is this your problem?

No, I've said "Felicia Fun" each time. Plus I'm giving them the registration number... Nowhere does it! I've tried elephant, Tesco and Halifax now and they all say no as it's a pickup!?

Nobody wants my business :(

Yes not surprised with Tesco thats what I mentioned in a previous reply to you as its classed as the Fun is classed as a commercial vehicle and it is a pickup.

Yep the Fun is a comercial vehicle as it is a pick up.

I have a commercial policy on mine.
