oem xenon terrible

Featured Replies

My car has xenon/hid what ever you want to call them from the factory and I think they are a bit crap. They barely light the road up in front of me! Anything I can do to make them work better? Upgrades fixes etc?

Cheers Jono

put your front foglights on like me

xenon bulbs fade over time so if yours are original, replace them. Also are your lenses clear? Any colorization or fogging?

That's strange I have factory hid's and have always been impressed with the light output certainly much better than halogens.

I would look at replacing the bulbs first chap it's quite possible that the bulbs are the original ones that came with the car making them 10+ years old.

Please don't put your fog lights on you look like a complete pratt driving with them on. I'd go with what everyone's said and change the bulbs.

The lad who I bought it off reckons he had just put some new bulbs in at the cost of £45 a pair.. complete garbage though

I too are one of those prats on country roads and motorways with my fog on (all of 1 working lol)

Might invest in some decent bulbs!

The lense themselves look in fairly good nick maybe a little 'hazy' but nothing major

Just a suggestion but is your beam adjustment set right?

I had the standard halogen bulb until a few weeks back. As the nights were gettin longer thought id upgrade to ring hid effect extra whiteer bulb. Cant believe difference plus the beam adjust wasnt set right

Now all set perfect.

Actually they are worse than I thought. Don't think it really shows in the pics but externally they are scratched to bits and internally the lense looks 'dusty' guess this will be wear over the years?

I don't think the picture shows it properly but it is a very dusty look on the inside

offtopic: I was heading back home after a journey to the mountains this Saturday. We made a stop at a petrol station to refuel and drink some coffee and when we got back on the road, it was already dark so I had to turn on my headlights. It took me about 5 minutes to accommodate with them. I'm driving the car for over 1 year and it never felt this way. I think this was a matter of exhaustion or of too many kilometers driven that day.

ontopic: try lowering the beam ... it helped me :)

Factory xenons can be adjusted in the car by headlight switch as there a levelling sensor on the rear axle if they are retro fitted you need vcd's

Sorry for being dumb but where am I looking? Lol

Have you actually checked the lights are set right.ive been known to accidently move the adjuster. Easily done

Can you take pic of lights on without blinding yourself lol

There is a possibility that the projector bowls may well have burnt out over time.

To know for definite though would be a right PITA to check as you'd have to split the headlight and take it to pieces.

Where ur light switch is you have 2 adjusters to the right of main switch on mine its furthest right you will tell which one as one dims instrument dials other does lights

Btw i have 2004 1.9tdi comfort so prob diff to yours sry for confusion if thats the case

Confused here because I though all xenons/hid had to be self levelling to not blind other road users? But the normal halogen could be adjusted?

If there's a self levelling sensor for xenon on the rear axle wouldn't that make the manual levelling redundant?

I haven't got the height adjustment switch in mine it's the first thing I looked for, you had me thinking it was somewhere else lol.

Think I'll give it a go with the new bulbs.

Can anyone recommend any? Nice crisp white light, preferably light up the road a lot better than the current ones lol

Do you know what bulbs are fitted? 3000k higher etc

6000k i recommend
